Didn’t read it all comments but seems like a good episode, didn’t want spoilers even if not in my current watch list (got many going on and fewer are too serious ones). Offerman and Mullally rock, and even better they seem quite happy together from any bits I’ve heard.
I bet Shapiro is just jealous of them and found something to screech about for the day. He’s all confused about people who can be happy and accepting, not in his nature.
Do want to watch the series still, I never finished the first game even or got far in it. On my list with the show to do at some point.
Also if you want to see early Offerman I recommend the movie Groove which he had a small part as a cop inspecting a rave, back when they weren’t commercial so had a fun feel for us racers back then. if that’s not your thing I believe he was in a number of sitcoms in the 90s as well, with small parts.
No spoilers but that episode is one of the best. Its plot is implied by a note in the game, but not shown or addressed at all.
So they basically got free rein and made one of the best fucking stories to come from that series. You could watch that episode by itself and lose nothing if you wanted, FYI.

And that’s the kicker. I used to be pretty deep in internet culture, big time redditor, my finger well in the pulse of what’s going on. My own view: Those right wing nuts would have LOVED his character, were he not gay. Nearly everything else about that character fits perfectly into the archetype of masculinity and rugged individualism these same chuds jerk off about.
Yep he was a full on libertarian prepper lone wolf (who happened to like dick). And the show even went out of its way to show us that this gay guy needed the world to literally end for him to be able to embrace his own sexuality. The guy never had a gay relationship in this whole life, probably because of fear of “his people” turning their backs on him

My wife and I go to an art museum a year for fun. Sculpture taught me what I love about music. It’s all connected.
That was such a good episode too. Gay characters written like human beings instead of some caricature of gay people, with the “gayness” not being the whole point. No pandering or anything, just a great love story that happens to be between 2 men. Made for a much more interresting character than in the game, something that doesn’t happen very often.
What I like about it is it took what was in the game, expanded on it, and approached it from a different angle. It only changed just one small detail and that turned a tragedy into a love story.

In the game you don’t find a lot out about Frank.
I can’t recall the exact details, it’s been a long ass time, but I think at some point you end up finding his hanging corpse. There’s a note and basically implies he committed suicide because he got bit trying to get away from bill, who was being a dick.
It’s real dark and sad.
We also know Frank liked brightly colored shirts. But yeah not much else.

In the game Bill never overcame his paranoia and was unwilling to accept Frank’s attempts to let others into their lives, causing Frank to leave. Frank committed suicide after getting bit and Joel discovers his body and a letter he wrote for Bill, and later gives it to Bill as he leaves. I think it’s implied that Bill also commits suicide after Joel leaves.
The last part about him committing suicide after you leave I didn’t pick up on. That makes it way more sad.

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t really watch romantic stuff, but that episode made me sob a lot. The writing was terrific. Offerman and Bartlett put so much humanity and real emotion into their roles.
One of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen, period. I’m a huge TLOU fan so I may be biased, but most of that episode is a self-contained story. I cried at the end of it.
