This should just be taken down by steam tbh. It has no actual critique to make, its entire purpose is to profit off of either shock content by being outrageous or to pander to people whose views align with wanting slavery.
It’s not like games with the mechanics this uses don’t exist. Dungeon Keeper did it in the 90s. Slap your minions with your god hand to make them work faster. Slap them too much and they will become unhappy and die. Games don’t have to use literal plantations and black slaves to achieve this gameplay and don’t have to rely on pandering or shock as the principle purpose of their existence.
It is art with no value or goal other than to upset people, either the left for when it does not get taken down or the right for when it does. There should be no hesitation about removing such things.

I think what I’m trying to say is that there’s a specific, present-day framing of reactionary bullshit as just a joke, that feels distinct from shock for shock’s sake. The milieu is different. So the same transparently fucked up idea would exist in a different space.
Even if the dev is an openly shitty person, people would play it for laughs if it was a NG submission, and stream it, and it would be a tiny event. There’d be a few comments like “guys this one is pretty fucked up, even as a joke” and “lighten up people it’s just pixels”. But mostly contained to the NG page.
Vs. now where it seems like it could be explicitly designed to get people into online slapfights over, and where the low chance of the dev not being a shitty person basically vanishes to zero regardless. Big brouhaha around Steam, openly bad faith “don’t you agree art should make people uncomfortable? Maybe you’re the racist bigot” shit, I don’t know. Something is definitely different.

Valve has a half-admitted policy of freezepeach absolutism. Their online games are pretty unique in that there isn’t any punishment for putting up nazi symbolism and saying slurs in the chat. At least they don’t censor lefty content either but it shows that they’re just a business with no other value than moneymaking, they just don’t have brainless failson heir investors to force absurd ideas onto them

Okay, that’s all my insecurities about my ability to develop games out the window. I have way better ideas and make way nicer assets than this.
I’ve helped with a attempt at a gaming co-op. I helped some kids make games and interns. If you know how to do any coding and have a mind for it that’s a big chunk of the battle.
If you want to make a game I def recommend it. I’m not going to say it’s easy, but you don’t got to be out here making Silksong or something.

Yeah, steam has 0 moderation and people can just say the most vile shit in the steam forums, literally every game that has more than a few hundred players will have their steam forum infested with nazis.
