I’m 6’4" and when people ask if I play basketball I just tell them “Nah, I play video games”. The people who are disgusted by this answer are people who I know to avoid.

I then also let them know that 6’4" is on the short side for a Basketball player.

          https://medium.com/@alexgoulden/what-percent-of-human-historys-7-footers-have-played-in-the-nba-ec4ec60c1801

To be fair, if you live in the US and are 7’ or taller, there’s a 17% chance you were employed by the NBA at some point.

If you lived anywhere in the world it only drops to 9%

So it’s pretty decent odds that any random 7’ or taller person has played basketball professionally.

Yup, yao ming is pretty tall and it really stands out when compared to older Chinese men.
(Chinese men tend to be an inch or two shorter than US average, and the older generations grew up with some degree of food scarcity and tend to be about six inches shorter. Yao ming is 7’6”, which is quite tall. )

Older Chinese men are like, a half foot shorter. It stands out more.

But you’re right, I probably should have written that second paragraph saying that older Chinese men are on average shorter due to rampant food issues in china ~60 years ago.

It feels as like a dick move by whoever assigned seats.

You have a well-known celebrity who’s famously tall, and you place him so 3 or 4 people straight behind will have an obstrcted view of the event.

I guess this is the “… But at what cost” we’ve been asking about.
