I see nothing wrong with a time limit - it just enforces the idea that you’re paying for one meal. But the more I think about it, normal restaurants serve you the amount they want you to eat. All you can eat restaurants offer a distinctly different product, which it seems like they should be prepared to deliver even when it’s occasionally more than they prefer.

Yeah I’ve had similar experiences, not with the meaning of life but thinking I solved some technical thing, but no memory of the solution. But I remember feeling great about having figured it out, which is what I think we actually dream about.

I’m torn between agreeing he abused the “all you can eat” concept, and the fact that people who eat less than average aren’t given a discount. Overall I think this guy is an outlier and should be factored into the business plan.

They are super useful! The key is knowing how many are enough, so you recycle them instead of storing them. Despite being made of plastic, manufacturing a yogurt tub has a much smaller carbon footprint than a glass ramekin.

Space elevators. I used to be a huge fan but I’ve lost faith in the concept. For one thing, there’s been little progress toward creating the unfathomably long carbon fiber tether - about 35,000 km (22000 mi). Then there’s the tether’s vulnerability to damage or destruction - a fixed target in an unstable world. A break means total failure. We also have no idea how the material would degrade over time. Not that the technology is impossible, I just expect space travel to become cheap enough to make space elevators obsolete long before the tech is there to build them.
