They’ll build it anyway.

Company Reps Left, Feeling “Unsafe”.
So does everyone who might suffer from the pollution, noise, and increased utility bill from data center.
I legit dont think my child is going to grow old because of what is happening in our environment. It seems like a real possiblility with the unaddressed issues of climate change and our resource managment problems. What it’s like to sit with that.
I werent supposed to have a kid, I …have a kid, doing my best, but I have to surpress this very real chance of reality, and it sucks to sit with it.
feeling unsafe doesnt even cover part of the grievances
“Salem” didn’t do this, the citizens did. And you can, too!
I don’t know how to organize with that many badasses, but it’s a really encouraging story about reminding the rich and powerful of what gives them power and how easily it can be taken away.
We need more of this energy.
Hello yeah. Just build a bunch and place them in public places over night as art installations.
They’ve started putting up surveillance towers in my town. I’m thinking about putting up some posters around them. Make people question things a little more.
The Salem Council Member Trials will be televized.
Float or Not Float?
Kal-market ready to take your bets!
Remember kids, it’s only communist agitators who hate data centers. /s
If that were true, it’d be a pretty good hint that Leftist politics might be worth checking out, don’t you think?
Fuck the owners.
they’re a broken clock that’s right two times a day. As opposed to a running clock that’s offset and never true at all.
Hell yeah dude 😎
Yahoo doesn’t want us to see it, though. Where’s the image??
It is in the video linked via shitter
Can you share it here? I don’t have a shitter account.
If you click on the article, the video is embedded, no need to sign into shitter.
So it worked as planned?
Oh, I believe it did.
Company representatives reportedly assessed the scene and left, citing safety concerns — though that detail hasn’t appeared in formal news coverage or official minutes.
Moreover, there’s this:
What did make the official record: a unanimous council vote to direct staff to begin developing a moratorium on data center development, confirmed by Salem Reporter and KATU News.
Pressing a pause button and painting an uncertain future for data center corporations, while the world becomes progressively more aware of the harms of their use, does not bode well for the industry. At least, not in Oregon. Well, maybe numerous other states too. Other municipalities and local governments might be watching. Word gets around, you know.
Consider the following and imagine the apparatus wasn’t even lingering outside Loucks Auditorium:
Do take a look at the image accompanying this article. Would you as a data center company representative wish to face this crowd in your bid to publicly promote their use?
Best to cut your losses, not your necks eh?
Would love to, but no. Instead of direct adoption, the council said they’d conduct “studies” on the claimed demerits and come back to it afterwards.
While there is a chance the “studies” will agree with the protestors’ claims, it’s more likely a small bribe will get the go ahead anyway or they merely retreated to sign the contract behind closed doors.
With all the trumpeteering going around, i wouldn’t be too hopeful about the end result.
Sounds like they need to bring them to the next meeting too.
And cut some melons for everyone to enjoy.
I’ve honestly been considering a melon slicee like that too, to bring to protests. I think it’s time.
People do enjoy melons.
Sounds like they didn’t get the memo
they must want a demonstration
No they got away
That’s because they used it wrong. You’re supposed to pretend it’s a magic trick. Usually it takes 5 beheadings before the rest figures out the trick does not involve returning the heads.
The trick is… there is a Pledge, a Turn, but no Prestige for this trick.
You obviously didn’t pay proper attention to the ending.

Murdering the shit out of the unwanted party is still incredibly impressive and can wow audiences for years.
