This will hurt your cause
-Man who hates you and your cause.
David Brooks is a Republican. He doesn’t like Democrats. He wants Democrats to lose. He’s not presenting some deeper analysis of the Democratic role of preventing true reform and redirecting left wing fervor. He just wants them to lose. All his pretenses of disliking Trump aside.
Democrats about to return to their anti-socialist roots: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudsill_theory
The Mudsill theory is a proposition that there must be, and always has been, a lower class or underclass for the upper classes and the rest of society to rest upon.
The theory was first articulated by James H. Hammond, a Democratic United States senator from South Carolina and a wealthy Southern plantation owner, in a speech on March 4, 1858. Hammond argued that every society must find a class of people to do menial labor, whether called slaves or not, and that assigning that status on a racial basis followed natural law, while the Northern United States’ social class of white wage laborers presented a revolutionary threat.
Any time you hear the words “natural law” you know you’re about to hear an attempt to legitimize the most heinous shit.
Democrats about to return to their anti-socialist roots
They cannot return to the place they never left
Beautiful symbolism, a notoriously stubborn and cantankerous animal violently reacting to an offer of peace and unity
You know there is something very funny about turning down a offered rose. Tale as old as time if you will.
To bad the DSA isn’t on par. But the idea is funny.

American politics is so fucking stupid
Pictured: Greatness

Strom Thurmond was officially a member of the Democratic Party in the Senate until 1964, when he joined the Republican Party. He had earlier run for president in 1948 as the Dixiecrat candidate in opposition to Democratic president Harry S. Truman, receiving over a million votes and winning four states.
A staunch opponent of civil rights legislation in the 1950s and 1960s, Thurmond completed the longest single-person Senate filibuster, at 24 hours and 18 minutes in length, in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
You won’t be surprised at who gave the eulogy at Strom Thurmond’s funeral

“The left is bad because democrats are the party of the KKK!”
“I liked you democrats better when you were right wing!”
What are those values, exactly? Genocide and murder? Expanding global poverty and suffering? Accomplishing absolutely nothing of positive systemic value?
Why is anyone proud of that?
personal enrichment, shareholders, and status quo.

The cheerleader for the Iraq War, that David Brooks?
Former NY Times token conservative opinion columnist. Now downgraded to Atlantic writer (below NY Post)
(Iraq war cheerleader doesn’t narrow it down)
(Iraq war cheerleader doesn’t narrow it down)
it does if we’re talking specifically about people named david brooks
Yeah that’s him.
It’s only a slight exaggeration to say the Biden administration was a dozen aging moderates trying to manage a staff of 4,000 young progressives.
Democracy™
[…] Apparently, almost half of the members of the DSA’s leadership body identifies as Communist. The party is in alliance with the most brutal left-wing authoritarians from around the world, including in Cuba and Venezuela. Its New York chapter’s response to the October 7 mass murder and massremoved of Israeli civilians was to blame Israel for provoking the attacks.
Liberal values: mass murder through sanctions and genocide through sanctions AND bombs
[…] But other mainstream Democratic concerns seem to be moral. Something in the liberal heart recoils in the face of righteous ruthlessness.
Hitler particles
Everyone remembers the careers that were destroyed and the voices that were silenced by hard-core progressives in the peak woke era.
You’re right. The issue was the woke mob as MAGA says, not the actual sex pests and pieces of shit who got “silenced” (meaning criticised on Twitter)
[…] Napoleon was onto something
Oh boy
In politics as in warfare, the moral advantage is to the material as three is to one. Right now, all of the passion is on the left. Progressives are showing once again that so long as your followers are fervently committed, it doesn’t take many people to commandeer a movement.
Hell yeah, 1 commie counts as 1000 libs
So far, no mainstream Democratic politician has seemed willing to stir up the hornet’s nest by taking on the progressive brigades.
Democracy™
The Democratic establishment risks responding to incipient left-wing authoritarianism
They said the word! They said the word!! Authoritarianism is when checks notes you win the elections to New York City mayor. Oh, and you’re “nonwhite”.
[…] To encourage my Democratic friends, I would remind them of this fact: The Democratic Party became great not while pushing against the right. It became great while pushing against the left. Democrats can argue against Republicans in their sleep. They have a comfortable set of moves they can go to: trickle-down economics, tax cuts for the rich. But mainstream Democrats have to think hard when arguing against the left. They have to toughen up. They have to clearly define what they believe and what they do not believe. They have to rally grassroots supporters willing to fight alongside them. They have to come up with some new agenda to compete with the get-everything-for-free agenda that the left is now offering.
“We were very comfortable in the two-bourgeois-party system and those pesky leftists are making us THINK!”
This kind of struggle has happened before—and it was the making of the modern Democratic Party. In the late 1940s, World War II had just ended, and the Soviets were in the process of brutally subjugating Eastern Europe, thus moving from an uneasy U.S. ally to an aggressive U.S. foe. People were becoming aware of the tens of millions of victims who had been murdered by communist regimes over the previous decades.
You heard it fellas, communist regimes up to the late 1940s (historically, only 1: the USSR) murdered tens of millions of people.
Soviet socialism in Russia was looking more and more like National Socialism in Germany
Healthcare, education, housing, work and pensions = colonialism and genocide
I refuse to continue reading forward. Good luck to whoever pursues consuming this trash. Here’s an archive link

Name three examples that did not include SA
Straight up admitting that they killed MeToo

Notice them repeating the debunked lie of sexual assault on October 7th, just casually continuing to will it into existence. Same as all other atrocity propaganda: you just keep repeating it so over the years you have this consensus you’ve silently built that

But at least the battle lines are clear. Every Democrat is going to have to ask themselves: Do I support the moral realism of the mainstream Democrats, with their pragmatic reformist temper, or do I support the progressives, with their utopian belief in human perfectibility and their willingness to concentrate power in order to take aggressive action on behalf of social justice?

I get that we’re living in an age of rising authoritarianism, but I was kind of hoping that the Democratic Party would resist the tendency.

The second option. Even the way he says it still makes it seem cooler. The ‘reformist temper’ got us here. People willing to concentrate power in order to eradicate social justice are gonna need to be net with equal strength. He made up the whole utopian idea of human perfectibility, that’s more the ubermensch guys and tech weirdos who wanna turn their brains into computers powered by orphan blood so they can pretend that counts as immortality. I’m pretty sure we just want innocentpeople to not be killed and for those of us who do the work to get what’s ours. That’s quite a far leap from whatever anyone would imagine as perfection. I hope he turns into a bug like poor Franz Kafka and gets eaten by a different bug

The funniest shit is that the DSA, the boogeyman of the article, actually chooses option 1 (pragmatic reformism) too.
mask off moment

My thoughts exactly
David Brooks sez:

Now make a whole career off of it
You know the purpose of the democrats is to be the “”““nice””" face of American capital at this point and nothing else because anybody who knows anything about electoral strategy from the last few decades knows this strategy doesn’t win but they keep fucking doing it.
I really hope Trump goes for a term 3. It could potentially implode the republican party and put the Democrats in an awful position if they don’t put their foot down fast enough while the SocDems agitate like motherfuckers.
Pure speculation tho. Any hope of the US collapsing and losing its ability to start wars as it pleases and kill us all with climate change is a hope I have though. From there I’ll just have to be strong for my comrades and community to help them pull through the mess. The rest of the world shouldn’t have to end.
(Idk why this post made me launch into that rant 🤷🤷🤷.)
liberals need to remember their history
Well, here’s something to jog their memory:

Main ideology: radicalism
Political position: Centre
The radical centrist party is real
Radical centrism is a real thing because centrism is not about being on the center of the spectrum but the will to protect institutions, that can be pushed to the extreme and lead to things like brutal repression of revolutionaries, without using especially nationalistic and reactionary rhetoric
