Theoretic question. Do you think if Jews made a moonbase and lived there people would leave them alone? Or do you think we’d start hounding them through the far reaches of space?

Because I think mankind would fixate on it and try to destroy them there too.

When your statement is so silly even Matt Yglesias can’t go along with it.

There are tons of unhinged anti-Israel takes out there but it’s clearly the case that the presence of millions of Palestinians living under Israeli rule is a major factor in external perceptions of the Jewish state — paranoia is not helpful.

Sometimes though, you spot a unicorn of an old white bald dude. How did you live through such times and come out with at least 1 good opinion?

I think it’s more antisemitic to be like “Let’s put the Jews somewhere else” than to be like “Yo goober, don’t steal people’s shit and kill them”

If Israel had done what New Zealand had done, they literally would have been an example for every other settler colonial state and would have had the support of the global South, but their prime ministers have literally been members of terror organizations; the Hagana, the Irgun and the Lehi brigade; the IOF were literally formed by those groups.

Comparisons to Nazi Germany are funny as well because from the documentaries I’ve seen, Germany was a failure in how they ran their country and how they ran their wars (not merely losing, but also in the amount of wasted materials and wasted hardware); Israel would be similarly poorly run but they’ve been on excellent life support from Western powers and outside funding, otherwise they would’ve collapsed ages ago. Apparently a lot of West Bank settlers are literally living in wooden shacks and they’re there specifically to take up land and prevent Palestinians from living in the area. End outside support for Israel and they won’t need their neighbors to put a stop to them, they’d simply collapse.

Can you elaborate? What did New Zealand do?

As far as I’m aware (admittedly maybe this was the writings of the kiwis themselves), they apparently decided to live alongside the Maori and accept them as fellow citizens; this wasn’t done out of kindness of course, it was done because they would’ve lost in a war against them; not a good reason, but better a bad reason for a good action, than a bad reason for a horrific action.

Yeah but the Israelis and the Palestinians did have a war, and thanks to the combined might of the west supporting them, they won. Colonizing Brits in the 18th and 19th centuries could never rely on the same sort of support from the rest of the empire, as far away as it was.

    Is she plotting something? lmao

“Is it absolutely true that a large rock fired into Earth from the moon using propellants would be more powerful and 100s of nuclear weapons,” Brianna Wu, a video game developer who is running to unseat Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), wrote on Twitter early Tuesday morning.

That tweet was eventually deleted from Wu’s Twitter account.

Yet another case of Do Not Invent the Torment Nexus.

A lunar mass-driver is a major part of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Edit: As pointed out, I’m a liiiiiittle bit (completely) wrong. The mass-driver was a good thing in the book (a tool of exploitation turned into a weapon of liberation). So it’s closer to “Please Invent the Freedom Nexus”.

Is the lunar mass-driver a bad thing in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress? Because if it is then Heinlein did some inventing the torment nexus of his own given that he was advising the Reagan administration on… well, sci fi weapons, along with Larry Niven and jerry Pournelle

The lunar mass driver was a good thing in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, it allowed the inmates of the lunar penal colony to gain their independence from earth

Oh, true! Uh, hm, uh. I didn’t think over the connections I was drawing very well, and just jumped to the meme categorisation instead of a better explication of the idea - that they’d gotten the concept from Heinlein and thought they were just like the protagonists.

if there was Zionist moon base it would definitely be some creepy secret miltiary torture laboratory so yeah, blow it up.

Also the moon is not “far reaches” of space, it’s literally the closest natural object. Go colonize the Oort cloud of you want to be left alone.
