The title is misleading, and the actual article is even more fascist than the title suggests.

They aren’t saying AI will stop people from wanting to immigrate.

They’re saying AI will replace all the jobs immigrants do. Then rich countries can kick out all their immigrants and seal their borders without any consequences.

And if AI could do what he thinks it can (a big if) and actually replace those jobs, he’d be right. Because AI would also replace most of the jobs citizens do, creating a huge, desperate, permanently unemployed underclass. And it’s easy to get desperate unemployed people to turn fascist and blame immigrants for the actions of their own upper caste.

Ironically, what AI has actually done is give middle management in rich countries an excuse to fire highly paid skilled workers (think coders and tech support) and replace them with lower paid foreign workers. They were laid off “in good faith” because the company “honestly” believed an LLM could do their jobs, but “surprisingly” it can’t, and “regrettably” it doesn’t make financial sense to rehire the original workers when they can get three qualified coders working remotely from India for the same salary as one local worker, right?

And once the West seals its borders and workers from developing countries can’t travel to higher paying countries, or get remittances from relatives working in those higher paying countries, those workers will be even more desperate and willing to work for even lower pay. It’s a win-win for everybody who matters.

    🤢

There’s a lot of magical thinking about how AI will actually help the labor market, but it seems clear to me that the entire reason for the billions being pumped into AI is the potential to slash labor costs.

It’s like they’re building human wood chippers while telling us that all these human wood chippers will actually result in fewer people being fed into wood chippers.

    he’s right!

AI will be used as a way to keep people locked into their little cages to toil and work their whole lives away for the rich and powerful.

you’ll never need to immigrate because you can never leave.

    AI is fascism.

All the worst pieces of shit gathered in the same place… and nothing happened? 😢

It’s the perfect place and time for a 30m diameter meteorite to hit…

Elmo Musk became the world’s biggest billionaire by scanning and lying about everything.

Others took note and took his example and just make random shit up, say shit that can’t be verified or even if it can, doesn’t matter. Just make fantastical fanatical unsubstantiated claims, and you will be rich too, bro!

This is Thiel in a nutshell

We really need to figure out a way to prevent the worst people on the planet getting any kind of power. I’m so tired of hearing about these freaks and weirdos, they don’t need yet another payout and even more power, they need therapy.

In this context, “AI” is just a codeword for “the fascist surveillance state that we are building.”

I’d be happy if he was put off on a deserted island with a bottle of olive oil and a handgranade.

Ah, you thought I meant it like… oh no, my thought was more like, leave him without water, soon he’d be desperate enough to drink the olive oil, giving him worse shits, and when he couldn’t take it any more the handgranade was his way out.

Why a handgranade and not a gun with a single bullet?

Because I don’t want to litter weapons for anyone to get, I wanted something that would destroy itself when used.

But why give him an easy way out. Make him live through the whole experience until he dies painfully.

At this point I’d be happy if the ghouls ruining the world died in an intense euphoria, as long as they were gone.
