I have seen a number of European libs talk about their nations having to align themselves closer/with China because the US is a loose cannon, unreliable or straigth up a threat. Obviously this is heavily tied to Trump but the fact that some libs are even entertaining the idea of this is quite telling.
Libs were already saying this behind closed doors during Biden’s term. The official policy in EU has been to be friendly with China behind closed doors but publicly standoffish to please america, in part because local populations are iffy on China so it doesn’t play well politically.
The current climate is a useful opportunity for them, they already wanted to be closer to China, this gives them reasons to convince the population it would benefit them.
