I’m 22 and the Mask is fairly popular with my generation due to us watching it on television growing up.
i think it’s also a very modern kind of humor, it slots in next to our memes without issue

I don’t doubt it. I grew up on a lot of stuff before my time as well. Jason and the Argonauts was one of my favorites. Me and my brother would laugh ourselves silly at how the stop-motion skeletons ran.

Weird how they did all that nice work on the feathers, mouth, eyes, etc and then used a couple of old hotel towels for the ear fabric.

Ill be honest. I hear this furry in IT thing in the fedivers all the time and I was in IT for a long time. Decades. Also I went to cons and knew furries. To my knowledge no one I knew in IT was a furry. If they were they did not have the slightest indication by anything on their desk.

back in the day furries where at general fandom cons. it was kinda sad when they got their own as there was a con in the area that was known for furries and klingons.
I think its more like a general statistic.
Furries are still a small minority of all people, so the chance your IT crowd has furries is not high.
But on average a furry does have a higher chance to be working in IT.
Same with people who are trans.
There is some natural logic to it. People who are a little different and not always accepted discover a safe haven in computers to connect to like minded people that do accept them. The internet has changed a lot and has become more hostile so those same people went in deeper to arrange and safeguard their own communities.
When your IT crowd does include such people there is also a big chance their not going to tell cause bias and stigma.
Programmers are more likely to be Gamers™ than furries. And the myth that they are leftist/liberal/trans is also a lie. A few famous ones are. The vast majority are just regular dudes (with signifact portion of the being chuds/incels/libertarians/right-wingers/etc).
can’t say I have really seen the super right wing types either. at most maybe idealistic libertarian. one trans. I mean I have had to have worked closely with at least 100 it folks in my career and many other that were around but maybe I did not work as directly with.
