BTW, the most careful estimate for victims of the British empire alone is 150 million and that’s the most lowballed count anybody has ever done.

It keeps going up because they count all the “unborn children” that would have descended from the Nazis killed by communism (and then their children, grandchildren, etc.). The further away we get from the actual deaths, the more quickly the number will go up, because it’s counting larger and larger counterfactual future generations.

I get that it’s just a dumb talking point with no substance to begin with, but this whole idea of attributing a body count to an ideology falls apart when you think about it for more than about eight seconds. if you want to attribute them to a person (say, reagan) or policies (say, one child) those are at least more or less things you can cite ranges for based on policies enacted.
