I currently own aprox 40+ Nirvana CD’s, so I was thinkin to myself… “damn, I sit all day at work without any music…” Then I started to think, “hmm I wonder if I could make a huge MP3 cd?” Not only would one MP3 cd hold close to 12 HOURS of music, but it would be all be NIRVANA… So I took all of my cds and converted them to mp3’s! Now at work I can listen to Nirvana at cd quality and never have to change a cd for 12 hours! Oh, and for a side note…my MP3 cds make a great archive so I dont have to use the expensive bootlegs and possibly scratch them. Now my life is complete.

I had a car stereo that could play mp3 CDs back in like 2010 and you better believe I had full discographies on discs in the glovebox
I did too, but a little earlier. I loved that stereo. Everything since has been a downgrade IMO.
Is it really CD quality if you compress them all to V6 to jam 300 songs in there?

I remember this puzzling me a bit when I first saw audiobooks being sold on 2-3 CDs instead of 20.
I wonder how long the cd lasted. CD-Rs weren’t known for their longevity.

A couple that were burned on cheap Pine CDRs have bronzed and won’t play, but all the stuff on decent Verbatim (or BenQ/HP) branded discs seems healthy.Nice! Yeah, there was definitely a difference in brands. I remember way back in the early 2000s there was a spool of magnavox CD-Rs I had that all went bad within like a month. Criminal.
CD-Rs should last around 10 years without data loss, that’s if properly stored and handled correctly. Anything over that you risk losing data or the disc not being read
I have nearly 30 year old burned CDs that still work, but I am sure that just survivor bias and most wouldn’t survive.
If you were to do this nowadays I’d just recommend getting a DAP that supports opus and convert them to that if you want to save space (lossy) or flac if you want lossless
Hopefully they kept their cds to redo the discs or archived them to a hard drive. Many people made the mistake of converting to mp3 and got rid of the discs

Did Nirvana have 12 hours of music?
Before flash memory became good and cheap mp3 players could hold more than 64 mb, I had a portable disc player that could play MP3 CDs.
I could burn them, but that would require the amount of oncentration and stable internet collection 2005 me could’ve only dreamed of, so I would just buy single-genre bootlegs that held something like 500 songs each. Everyone owned them, even my not tech-inclined mom had a collection of them
I discovered so much good music just listening to those.
