God forbid two grown adults want to fuck each other.
That’d make holiday season more convenient
I have told some of this story here before but I had some friends in high school. They started dating. At first their parents thought they were too young to date, and then the parents met each other. Blablabla The parents promised to wait until the kids graduated high school to get married because that would “make it weird” according to the mom. Like a month after graduation the kids eloped and then the parents stopped being so weird. Well, a little. Then half a year later the parents got married.
Both couples are still together, so good on them for figuring it out.
first i was thinking how cumbersome it becomes if one of the relationships goes down, but the more i think about it, the less it sounds like an actual problem. i guess if they are into regular family gatherings it might be troublesome.
Same happened to one of my friends but their parents married during the children’s engagement, kinda weird that she married her brother-in-law but they’re all still together 12 years later
I guess I am having a difficult time understanding the fuck up. Like, shack up the olds together so they can be independent longer. Plus, if they move in together, holiday visits require travel to just one place instead of two or worse, having to choose which family to see for which holiday.
If I remember that video correctly her explanation of tifu was that she became a [
half-sister]step-sister to her husband
so just her optics changed. In the end being more of a brag post from matchmakers standpointHalf-sister means they share one biological parent. This makes her his step-sister. Significantly different.
No, when I married your father I took his name, dna, everything
kids kids… as far as daddy’s concerned, you’re both potential murderers.
What are you doing, step husband?
Not much sister wife!
Oh, that’s even worse than step husband.
I feel weird calling someone stepwife but stephusband just rolls off the tongue. Especially when you pronunce it steph-usband
Thanks, yea you’re correct

This happened to my mother and father in law. It was awkward but they did get married first so they claim they aren’t the weird ones.
I wonder if the OP refers to their spouse as stepbro/stepsis now (I totally would, jokingly, and in front of said parents)
I know a couple where this happened (the kids were in high school (we’d smoke weed out back the church instead of churching up as teenagers), good on them playing matchmaker) and this is their sense of humor
Yep

(Please don’t share yt videos for such things…)
I know a couple whose single parents got together and theyre perfect for each other. Threw me for a loop at first but hey, everyone’s happy.
Honestly, this makes more sense to me than anything else. If their adult children like each other, the apple wouldn’t have fallen far from the tree.
So without getting into a huge debate about nature and nurture since both are at play and helping both couples out, I want to talk about my uncle Spud.
We were at a family reunion, and suddenly my mother noticed how I was standing with the exact same posture and pose as Spud and my cool brother. Spud didn’t get as much time with Grumpa as he should have growing up, you know divorce. Anyways all three us guys and my mother and my cool sister were all standing there with our hands on our hips with a bit of a hunch in our necks because that’s the spine Grumpa gave us. The only person at the reunion who was around Grumpa enough to really start to learn his posture (besides Gran) was my mother, yet there we were.
Honestly some of the things you can unwittingly inherit are surprising. I bet the parents saw their kids and thought “well of course they’re in love, they’re little 'Us’es”
Did you specify the cool brother because the other one is the hot brother?
since i’m the only one of my siblings who has modeled, that would be me
What are you doing, step-spouse?
Oh I got one better. My stepfather’s father married his ex-wives mom making his ex-wife his sister. What a shit show during the holidays!
And no not backwoods BS we come from big money, its was a nightmare.
I had no skin in the game so I watched from the sidelines w/ popcorn…
Backwoods - no work
Big money - no work
Same thing. Lots of time to fuck around.
Big money is no defence against “backwoods BS”. Ask the Hapsburgs about that.
Their parents didn’t meet before they got married?
Hrm. I’ve only met my FIL three times and have never met my MIL. They definitely aren’t going to meet my parents.
Thinking about my grandparents though, I am not sure my mom’s folks and my dad’s folks ever met either.
My wife and I have been together for 9 years, married for 3. I think our wedding was the 2nd or 3rd time our respective parents met each other, and they haven’t met since. Not a whole lot of time to build attraction. What events are you planning where 2 completely different families want to hang out with each other?
Thanksgiving at my house. My kids, my husband’s kids, my in-laws, my siblings, my ex and his family too (I was friends with his brother before I knew him and his mom is still my kids’ grandma) and when my mom was alive she came too.
I honestly love parties like that. It’s utter chaos. But fun.
Huh, I never even considered just doing 1 thanksgiving and inviting everyone even if they don’t know each other. We’ve always just done 2 events for any major holiday, sometimes 3 or 4 if we wanted to do something with different friend groups.
Yeah we try to get everyone! Sometimes the parents of the boyfriends/girlfriends of our kids show up too, even the kids who moved away, or any ‘orphans’ from my work. Everyone brings something. My ex MIL brings thanksgiving (like literally I think she makes a turkey too and just doesn’t bring it) I can never figure out if she is trying to show me up or what but it means I can make vegan versions of sides for the vegans, so it works out.
I cook for like 3 days to stage it but once done I let others set it out and clean up too. I just sit down, have a drink, and eat and hang out. Of course there’s always more cleanup at the end but worth it.
Highly recommend consolidating it if you have the space. So much fun.
Sounds like a blast, but I think I’m too introverted for that, haha! Even just having my own small family over at one time has me socially exhausted.
It’s harder to do if you have a large extended family, especially if another family member usually hosts.
My wife’s family was like that before her grandma and great uncle died.
Surely no one would make things up due to their upvote addiction?
That’s totally possible if they live pretty far or because of something else, my grandma never meet the parents of any of my aunts husbands lol
Fair enough
TIFU by helping two people find happiness. You wot, mate?
In this economy?!
The ex of a girl I dated in high school ended up her cousin by marriage and they kinda just rolled with it.
What are you doing step bro?
