Cuz I like laying on the living room floor and carpet is a better surface than wood. Cuz my dog’s nails click clacking on wood is annoying. Cuz my dog jumping off the couch slips on hardwood and I don’t want them getting a sprain. Cuz it’s cold in winter and walking on cold wood is unpleasant. Cuz picking rugs that match the room is fun.

Counterpoint: rugs are pretty and wood is boring. Wall-to-wall carpet is bourgeois decadence and has no place in socialist society.
Some landlorbs love LVP, bamboo etc but will require them as a lease condition. I like my tile floor because I’m the one who laid it all, and tile is easy to tidy up. I don’t even own a vacuum I just sweep my floor with a broom.
If I could rip up the carpet in my tiny apartment, I would. Vacuums are bulky and loud.
