I will gladly wait 1 minute of video loading before playing than watch 2 skippable ads that I need to click skip on.
Hell, I will go rampage and claim that I’ll wait 5 minutes before video starts rather than watch a single 30s ad.
I just download them shits and delete when I’m done. Ffmpeg and VLC do a better job than YouTube even wants to do
It’s funny, I found that switching tabs will immediately make it start playing the video. The idea of losing you entirely is too much, I guess
I don’t even get the “find out why” link. It’s literally just a popup that says “experiencing interruptions?” with no explanation. Just there to taunt me
FWIW, the link doesn’t answer the question. It just shows a chart of your ISP’s reliably but doesn’t say whether or not it’s to blame.
…
Actually, I don’t even think they show the chart anymore. But regardless, you won’t actually find out the reason why when you click the link.
The one I get, the words “experiencing problems?” is the link. But really, the only “problem” I experience is a momentary black screen as it loads the video without the ad.
All the link does is take you to the support page where it explains how to disable your ad blocker.
Their website is so laggy and slow I didn’t realize it was intentional
So much malicious code going on to piss us off and force compliance. And normies have no idea this is a thing.
Which, oh no i have to wait an extra 2 seconds of no ads, instead of waiting 15 seconds of ads that will continue playing unless i actively skip it
The interruptions supposedly caused by my adblock are tiny compared to the interruptions when I turn it off.
Yeah no shit. “Experiencing interuptions,” nope I’m not actually thank you very much. Youtube has gone down enough in quality to where I would probably just dump it if they manage to hamfist the ads back in. The algo is straight up terrible at keeping me engaged. You watched one video about Y? Whole feed is now about Y for the next week. I find better videos browsing incognito sometimes.
On the other hand, you watched a bunch of videos of X consistently, but skipped the last 3 we recommended? You’ll never see that topic again.
Me: Searches for a very specific video that I know exists because I have seen it within the last three months.
YouTube: Nope, sorry, just can’t find it. Don’t know where it went. I don’t think that video ever actually existed. I’m not even gonna show you results that contain your search terms because of how stupid I think you are.
In my case, it was looking for a specific video of pulling a 4.2 liter Jeep engine out of a CJ7. YouTube responded with dozens of videos on CJ5’s and Wranglers, and the 4.0 liter engine, but not the 4.2 CJ7, and not the video I was looking for, and unfortunately it’s not the Jeepin with Cool Guy video.
Although, in one scroll, they did offer to show me the exact same video three different times.
Inexplicably, despite having the same parent company, a google (or any engine really) search is going to have far better results for finding videos on youtube. I swear they stopped improving the internal search capability back in 2010, when they could have just punted to google.com ages ago.
Have you seen google photos ? The search function there is shockingly bad. Even when I know a photo exists of xyz, searching for xyz or words related to xyz finds either nothing at all, or unrelated images.
Perhaps that’s a blessing in disguise. They know way too much about me already. I was also glad, in retrospect, that they started limiting photo storage as I no longer upload any photos to them. The Android app is big mad about that and periodically tries to trick me into re-enabling uploads.
That’s because google doesn’t show you internet search results any more. It takes your parameters and serves you the closest match it can find within its advertising network
I had an 01 Cherokee sport and that 4.0 was amazing though. Spin the tires on pavement no problem even with the automatic transmission.
I’m yet to experience them. As far I have only experienced that warning.
I’ll load a video on my PC and it’ll “buffer” for about 5-10 seconds, then play the video. I’ll get that little pop-up of “experiencing Interruptions?”
If I have to wait 10 seconds to watch a 30 minute video ad free, I’ll take it. Sure as hell beats the 30-60 seconds of ads before the video, and the in-video ads that you’ll stick in the middle of a fucking sentence so I lose the context of what someone is saying.
I tried to watch a video on my phone’s YT app, and ouch!
The ad is not only in the middle of a fucking sentence, but it also doesn’t pause the video and hijacks the volume. And it interrupts all the fucking time, there were at least a dozen ads in a 1-hour video.
And also, the “rewind 5 seconds” button is not there anymore. And YT won’t let you use another application while the video is running anymore. And if you move from the YT app for too long, it jumps right to the end of the video.
Yeah, I’m willing to use that shit while my ad-blocker unfucks it. The moment Google is successful in breaking that, I’m out.
firefox mobile + ubo + disable YouTube app. years of YouTube on my phone and not a single ad.
Or Revanced, link to youtube, just use youtube. No ads either.
Whatever works for you. I’d rather people use a dozen different ways to ad block youtube than watch youtube ads.
100%. This solution was the first I found, so I’ve just stuck with it.
I especially like the little glimpses to the advertisement hellscape I’m avoiding when my adblock plugin fails to work (usually right before they need an update). I especially like how the ads are rocking some kind of premium low-latency CDN while the rest of youtube is served from a cluster of used xboxes, presumably co-located in an abandoned Radio Shack in suburban Alaska. Treat your users better, Google.
I have ad blockers on my PC, use Smarttube on my Firestick, and ReVanced on my phone. And when someone sends me a youtube link in a group chat or something and I click it, it’ll open the standard Youtube. 1/2 ads, 30+ seconds long, can’t skip them… I just don’t even bother watching what you sent me.
Because you can’t open youtube in vanced, if I want to do that I just open it in youtube, cancel and then open vacned and play it from history.
Weird? I literally just open the YouTube app and proceed as normal.
Have you tried Grayjay?
Try installing URLCheck (it’s on F-Droid) and make it your default browser, then remove open-by-defaults from the YouTube app.
It should let you open in the ReVanced or better yet Morphe version of YouTube. If tapping the link doesn’t open URLCheck, then “Share” the link and select URLCheck.
Simply disabling the Youtube app (since at least on my phone it can’t be uninstalled) does the trick as well
some devs(or staff members) of Morphe that develop some patches are against furries and insult them, i would not suggest Morphe tbh
Morphe has also a heavy use of AI from what i know, i highly suggest to just stick with Revanced
deleted by creator
Because I find the youtube app a lot easier to use.
Google:
Don’tbe evil
What interruptions, Youtube? Literally nothing changed other than the fact there aren’t ads playing.
It’s like Internet Explorer on Windows. If you rip it out the whole system does not work anymore and there is no way to make that work. /s
Thanks for the detailed guide to fix windows.
Ah yes, experience a <15 second loading buffer…
Or watch potentially multiple entire minute long, unskippable adverts.
Honestly part of me has considered paying for YouTube premium - but aside from not having to fight off ADs, I don’t care about the other perks, and am more than happy to just give to the creators directly without Google getting a cut.
Same, any creators that I seriously follow on YouTube also get a Patreon sub from me.
I’ll close and reopen a video multiple times until it goes straight to the video before I watch an ad.
ProTube is solid, and the SponsorBlock extension is also nice.
I considered paying for it but the cost vs benefit just wasnt there.
To prevent a few ads playing vs blocking those ads anyway for free.
yeah nah.
The number of videos I watch on YouTube amounts to maybe 3 hours a week.
At best.
On average maybe 20-30 minutes.
I’m not willing to pay
$13$9 a month for that. What? 13? a month?, wtf is Google thinking 🤔, I’m really surprised of the price, I have been blocking add for years and it’s been long since researched for the price, damn.
My bad. $9 a month.
Still too expensive.
1 dollar a month would be a great deal, we are getting to the point that the private data they are gathering from us is not enough to pay for the services.
The problem with YouTube Premium is that it’s not differentiated from NewPipe or Vanced.
You don’t get a better algorithm. You don’t get higher quality. You don’t get faster speeds.
You literally get a service that is provided by third party apps.
Until they start baking in ads with their content, YouTube Premium is essentially a paid service for people who don’t run a block or don’t want to use a third party tool.
Most people don’t care, I have tried a lot to migrate people to newpipe, SmartTube, etc. and they just don’t care.
YouTube is probably 90% of our streaming consumption.
Combine that with the music streaming, background play, video downloading, and ability to access it on hotel smart TVs.
Plus it supports the creators I like.
Really makes YTP a no-brainer for us.
You can get background play via using FireFox, video downloading with extensions or other programs, and play anything on hotel TVs with a video cable from a laptop or any other device. All without paying the great beast.
I’m not going to implement multiple workarounds on our android and apple phones and plug a laptop into a tv every time I want to watch YouTube on it. YTP is well worth my few dollars a month.
Per view, YouTube premium pays more then add supported ones. How much exactly I dont know.
But it’s all relative. For example Patrion would be a much better way of supporting a creator
I’m using Firefox with Ublock Origin, and it’s really funny that youtube videos open without any problems or delays, but still, the questions about interruptions appear. They failed to ruin my user experience, but still fucking hope they did.
Tip: if you use a chrome user agent, it won’t have delays
No YouTube I’m not experiencing any interruptions
The only interruption I’m experiencing is your asking me if I’m experiencing interruptions!
“We got it. We’ll remember that.” and other lies the devil tells you.
I found that opening several videos in different tabs and letting the tabs load in the background minimises YouTube’s deliberate slowdown of videos.
I get captchas if I open multiple tabs.
Oh dont worry I actually do pay for the “convenience” of premium and I still experience interruptions, youtube either refusing to load the video list for minutes at a time or severe buffering issues watching a stream with left leaning content, usually losing a second out of every five unless I turn the phone screen off and just listen to the audio. I’m expect it will only get shittier too
Are you on firefox? Google will slow down your page and loading times just because your browser isn’t chrorium based, try changing user agent
We watch a ton of Youtube and have had premium for years. Twice now over maybe the last month, we’ve gotten errors stating “account in use at another location” or thereabouts, so we’re waiting for them to cancel the old family plan that lets us share an account with separate profiles.
At that point she’ll probably keep the account and I’ll go the hack route to get sponsorblock, since premium only skips half the ads anyway with everyone doing promos mid video anyway.

Fwiw with premium if you hit fast forward once during the promp theres usually a “jump ahead” button that appears that allows you to skip to the promo’s end
Huh, I will have to try that… Thanks for the tip!
I’ve found the jump ahead button to skip the promo spots can be hit or miss. It usually pops up if I press skip forward once though. Whatever the button that jumps a few seconds ahead is, depending on the device I’m using.
Same here. I still have issues with interruptions, weird loading issues, etc. even on my desktop where it’s a wired gigabit+ connection and plenty powerful for a basic video stream. Not sure if those are just Youtube in general, if it’s Youtube deliberately breaking randomly because I’m not using Chrome, or just other issues like Comcast being a piece of crap randomly.
I pay for premium for a few reasons:
- Not having to futz with adblock on every different device I try to use, especially oddball devices like TVs or when using devices that aren’t mine.
- Premium views pay creators several times more than regular views.
- Youtube Music streaming included instead of having to pay for a separate subscription like Spotify.

I haven’t had to update my adblocker in over a year. I installed Ublock and sometimes I just forget it exists. I downloaded Smarttube on my Firestick and got it working in 5 minutes. Revanced on my phone took some fiddling, maybe a half hour or so, and now ad free on there too.
Imagine being so lazy that sending Google $15 a month instead of taking 30 minutes of your time to accomplish the same result.
Premium views pay creators several times more than regular views.
So does patreon, or whatever subscription service they use. Google pays them pennies for the dollars they keep from you. Not to mention sponsor skips still trigger their ad revenue, so even though you skip the ad block, they still get money. Neat, huh?
Youtube Music streaming included instead of having to pay for a separate subscription like Spotify.
QoBuz is just as good and you’re not feeding money into dystoptia.
Just admit you’re okay sending money to the problem instead of being a solution.

Wow, saying I’m lazy… yet you didn’t read the entire sentence you are responding to. Ublock is great… on a PC… but that doesn’t work on TVs. Network-level blockers like Pihole don’t work when at a friend’s place, etc. You know, the other half of my previous comment you ignored because your answers weren’t relevant. I have things Ublock, Pihole, and Tailscale setup on my network. That’s not always readily available on EVERY device that I might use EVERYWHERE. But you know what is? My YT account not having to deal with it in the first place.

I’m not spending $5+ a month each for 30 different content creators. But I will spend less than $20 so that my view pays them 4-5x what a regular one does, in addition to the other perks. It’s almost like you, again , didn’t actually read what you’re responding to.
QoBuz is just as good and you’re not feeding money into dystoptia.
Let me get right on using whatever the fuck random bullshit some dude online is suggesting and that I’ll have to resea rch whether it’s supported on EVERY device I use, when YT Music definitely is already.
Just admit you’re okay sending money to the problem instead of being a solution.
I’ll admit that I pay for a service that gives me features that I use, at a price I can justify, given what I use. You on the other hand just seem like an insufferable individual that apparently needs to be condescending on the internet so you can feel superior. You do you, I’ll do me.
Imagine being so lazy that sending Google $15 a month instead of taking 30 minutes of your time to accomplish the same result.
Ahem, $18.99/month, and yes I’m extraordinarily lazy, and I’m in the bottom quintile in terms of income so expenses hit harder for me than most.
I suppose the main reason is I don’t want another party in the loop that might be collecting info on my browsing habits, one is plenty.
Why people would watch vanilla YouTube without a privacy front like invidious, newpipe or SmartTube is beyond me. No ads, no algorithm, sponsorblock, no click bait thumbnails and convenient download options
As much as the algorithm can be annoying and awful. Something the scope of YouTube with out an algorithm at all is fucking stupid.
It is literally humanly impossible to sift though YouTube with out some form of algorithmic assistance.
Newpipe has an algorithm and an incredible search function. It breaks every now and then, but it’s great otherwise. It says it’s going away after google crashes sideloading though.
Please remember where this road leads: DRM. Law, not technology. We need to prepare our collective infrastructure for that eventuality now while we still can.
