The halftime show has always been an opportunity for a major musical act to send whatever message they can fit in to a huge portion of America.
But yes, the game itself is destroying the bodies and minds of players and hopeful players (of whom the most committed tend to be poor and racialized). It’s not nearly enough better than boxing. I don’t really care for any sports, but baseball and basketball seem to be the least horrible (basketball has the ncaa issues though, and really needs a minor league instead).
