I only buy music from Bandcamp, as well as some bigger releases from Qobuz.
Spotify is simply awful, and I’m not very happy with Apple Music either which feels almost like abandonware. Time to go back to having a real music library I own, which I’ve been building up incrementally for a year now.
Good on Bandcamp! This is absolutely the right stance. 👏
I’m entirely an MP3 person ever since I first built up my music hoard 27 years ago. I also get the tracks I want where they don’t exist or AI-bastardized on Spotify.
While good. I’m suspicious of this because of my experience with how this has been implemented on other platforms.
It usually is not implemented well and gives a false sense to the user that the content is not AI.
I am much more respectful of places that communicate with their users on their current efforts to remove AI generated content and give easy methods for flagging it.
AI isn’t some “tag” that everyone puts on their uploads. It’s not as simple as just “banning it”.
So, while I appreciate it. We’ll have to see if this is just a “we banned AI” while the platform is still flooded with it. Or, if it’s actually a real attempt at purging AI content from the platform. Because those are massively different things with massively different effort required.
This is the way.
