Nigeria is the biggest country in Africa by population, by a wide margin. Trying to get in there by force … seems weird. Maybe he wishes for some military bases in Africa with cooperation from Nigeria?

Its only about (closely) avoiding big wars with Russia or China for him. Small fish like Venezuela and Nigeria still seem digestible to the empire.

But Nigeria is the biggest country in Africa by population. This is really big.

I want… I want three full-scale global nuclear alerts with every army, navy and air force unit on eternal standby!

i remember a tweet below that jewish insider piece defending RSF mentioning how now everybody’s talking about what’s going on in sudan and not christians getting attacked in nigeria. it’s completely possible that a trump aide or fox news commentator saw that and started chirping about nigeria which planted this seed into trump’s brain. trump’s completely demented, he’s always listening to the last person that talked to him and pulled his nutsacks. fuck this.

I went to Nigeria specifically to help out a “missionary” ministry back in 2013ish, and the “christians are being murdered there just for our faith!” thing was a huuuuuuge line. After spending a couple months there though, that was largely disproven, and one of the locals their explained how it happens pretty well to me, at least in Jos, where we stayed. Jos is a city that’s basically 50/50 christian/muslim. geographically anyway, not sure on the demographics. North was muslim, south was christian. The people that live in Jos are all friendly. Work and live and play together, all the time. But when outside extremists come to the area specifically for an attack, they know if they just target whichever area they hate, they can set off a bomb or start a fire or whatever and kill 95% christians/muslims. its fucked, and what makes it more fucked is that none of the missionaries care when it was muslims getting slaughtered. it only registered when it was christians, and that’s why we needed to go to jos to save our christian brethren!

The military was probably uncomfortable with attacking a Christian, almost white country so Trump’s compromise was to attack a country in Africa; Nigeria may even be Christian but honestly I don’t know and Trump definitely doesn’t.

the country is almost split even between northern majority muslim half and southern majority christian half. i think islam is around 55% and christianity 45%. if i had to guess christians are probably more represented in the government but don’t quote me on that.

the main concern in nigeria is boko haram (which was affiliated with ISIS) and gangs and bandits affiliated with boko haram. it mainly operates in the muslim majority north and attacks shias and christians but also general stealing, looting and kidnapping. i don’t know how strong they are now (certainly weaker than 2015-2016) but i would imagine it’s mostly compromised of thugs trying to scare people by using the name of boko haram.

i don’t know how a new military campaign could destroy this but i don’t think the trump admin know either and they’re still doing it. they just want to kill brown people it’s not that deep.

Seems similar to the Somalia strategy of the US: Split Somalia into two new nations. Somaliland could be recognized by the US in return for political loyalty. Somaliland will host military bases and refugees from US-Detention.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
