It’s always been really funny to me how Gordon Freeman is supposed to be a turbo nerd with a PhD from MIT (and that Gabe Newell was like yeah, that’s right). The amount of times that credential is useful to him is zero, because he’s basically just Doom Guy or Duke Nukem.

Gordon Freeman kind of doesn’t even need to be gendered. He never says anything. Making all the chuds made by remaking the various games but renaming them Jordan Freeman and making it completely ambiguous what gender they are. (If they didn’t just assume they’re a man)

Half life has always been woke unfortunately, with POC scientists and a female lead who beats up armored tough guys. valve has been woke ever since half life 1. they don’t make bangers like quiver anymore smh

Overall, that generic “gina” model was retconned in Half-Life: Decay as a standalone character alongside Colette Green and the woman who gave her likeness to the Hazard Course’s Holographic Assistant.

They’re just going for a scientific aesthetic. Test subject. Narratively dehumanized so the player can do the humanizing. I don’t see an unconscious or conscious political statement here
