i was so shattered to learn that panthers are jaguars
i thought the nature had special niche for giga-stealth kitties.They always make me think of the old school traditionally animated Garfield feature where they went camping and were stalked by a panther (I was a big nerd for newspaper comics as an under 10, despite not even being American. Send help.)
i saw them like in jungle book or lion king, and the narration passed me by in nature documentsries, so i parceled them out as weird stealth cat which lives ?somewhere? and does ?somethings? differently from other cats. didn’t think about it until late teenage years, which is weird cause i had some general concept where other big kitties might be met in the world and what they get up to from those nature documentaries, but panthers were like those mystical beasts in my mind.
but no, just very dark jaguars, which is noticeable even in this picture, in spots, head shape and paws
