I think Lucas really excelled when he was pushing against the limits of technology and budget and those limits really held him or n a sweet spot for story telling he would naturally push himself out of.
If you read all the extended universe stuff that existed to explain the clone wars you would understand how bad the sequels are to a starwars project.
It isn’t any better than some of the tv failed projects like wheel of time, sword if truth, shannara, American gods.
It’s absolutely hollow after learning about the star wars lore through those characters.
There are some great moments and people in the sequels. But as a whole they made star wars worse. Find and read the thrawn trilogy, or the rogue squadron books if you want a glimpse at what could have been.
Considering Lucas took a lot of interest and veto over what stories were allowed to be published so that the world fit his idea instead of corrupting it, you just can’t see the prequels or sequels as anything but terrible.
I’m not sure I agree with the proposition that the prequels are far better than the Disney movies.
Phantom menace had some serious pacing and tone issues. The other two were better but I don’t j ow I’d say they are far better than Disney. They held to the cannon way more but that was its own weakness in the core plot which really kept them from being entirely interesting.
I will say the Disney movies are much better paced than the prequels. Well that’s not true that one slow space chase with the side quest on planets was a major drag. The first Disney movie was better paced than the prequels.
I would happily trade everything Disney Star Wars in exchange for another Lucas trilogy.
Lucas is just as bad as Disney.
Worse in some ways.It’s a tough call.Lucas is more than competent as a storyteller. He just needs someone else to do the directing.
He is surprisingly good at storytelling despite having nothing to say.

He excelled when other people did all the character writing.
