• True. Once I met a neoconfederate femboy on discord that wanted a homo…confederate…return??? Something? With like a rainbow “rebel” (pronounced status quo loser) flag? I don’t even think he knew I was black.

This weird burst of gay nazi shit is so weird because the Waffen SS would have passed them around like a blunt at a middle school slumber party before having them gassed or giving them all lead poisoning instead of this little dark age sonnerad anime boy fantasy they’ve got going on in their heads.

  • There actually is no “male lonelyness epidemic” or rather, the increasing lonelyness we see in our society that atomizes and alienates everybody, systematically destroys third spaces and tears apart communities has been shown to affect people regardless of gender. Other studies find that women are affected more often than men, even when you adjust for potential confounding factors like lower self-reporting among men and longer life expectancy in women. And when you look at the search results for this stuff, you may notice that the sources that confirm the idea of a male lonelyness epidemic range from chud-adjacent to outright manosphere propaganda.

What we see here instead is the concept that Klaus Theweleit described as “soldatic masculinity” in his main work Male Fantasies, which in spite of its psychodynamic Deleuzian bias continues to be a thorough takedown of the ideological intersection between patriarchy and fascist recruitment. And personally i think that’s one of the most dangerous developments we’re seeing at the moment, it’s never a good thing when reactionary men get combat experience.

Even at my most dispassionate for life, I don’t think I’ve ever just left greasy and slimy food just sitting on my keyboard. I don’t think this is depression, it strikes me more as self-loathing.

  • CW discussion of Suicide and Mental health

    Random thoughts

Suicide by combat has long been a popular recruitment strategy for more than just Ukraine.

It’s a fine line to walk, though, like I imagine there is a lot of alienation and despair that drives communists in the imperial core to volunteer for internationalist brigades - I’ve followed a few people who volunteered in Rojava/YPG-I* over the years and some definitely struggled with their mental health before they made their decisions. I personally was close to doing so when I was particularly bad around 2016-2018.

Then again, those who did volunteer appear to have a new perspective on revolution once they return home. They become more active in organising in their communities and don’t seem to be as paralysed by despair as before. I can’t ever be sure if that’s a pattern or an anecdotal observation but you certainly don’t hear of folks taking their lives post-service like you do of veterans in the imperial militaries.

One thing that absolutely differentiates the two, though, is that Azov and Ukraine at large prey on this alienation. Azov like any fash movement is fueled by the doomerism and mental anguish of people like this redditor to serve as their blood sacrifice for fascism. Socialist brigades have historically not wanted their volunteers to die; they recruit for teachers, engineers, farmers, and medics as much as they recruit for soldiers. Does Azov and Ukraine offer anything other than making oneself “immortal” through glorious combat against the “Russian hoards”?

Idk that’s my two pence on the matter. May this redditor either find the help they’re calling out for, or meets a vain end in their pursuit of fascism. I have a feeling they are seeking the former, given my own memory of how quick these “plans” fall apart once someone offers anything other than cynicism to guide you. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume how well they’ve thought it through.

^* Yes the party line on Rojava and the SDF is negative, and rightly so, but most of the volunteers of the YPG-I were absolutely comitted to their pursuit of communalism, and the org itself was particularly strict on communalist education of foreigners.^

Yk should we even stop them? I’m wondering if Russia meat grinding so many fascists will have positive effects for western countries.

Maybe they’re not leaving in big enough numbers, not to mention the people of Donbas didn’t ask for so much fertilizer

It’s an extremely double edged sword. On one hand, Russia is de-nazifying both Ukraine and a lot of highly motivated fascists from around the world. On the other hand though, those that survive the war will likely return home and become terrorists with their military experience, possibly even training others with what they’ve learned. We haven’t really seen very much of it yet but it’s only a matter of time before drones start being used in terrorism.

You station all of them in defensive facilities and just bomb them pretending to be the enemy, they think everyone else is fighting the frontline war but they’re all stuck in the mock defensive positions.

    • I personally think these folks fall into two nroad categories:

      • If they’re a hardened fascist ideologue then you don’t want them in Ukraine because they’ll be more dangerous if they come home (and that’s usually more likely if they’re joining out of principle and not self-harm).

      • If they’re not, they’re probably an alienated doomer stuck in the reactionary pipeline that lures people into suicide-by-combat, which is not good either but less risk if they were to return. Not everyone in this bracket is necessarily a reactionary, either.

Idk I see the appeal of “let 'em become mulch lol” but if there’s any doubt in the minds of someone you see talking like this, it’s better to try bringing them down for sake of keeping another person out of that needless war. Starving Ukraine of meat shields no less a worthy cause in itself!

Once you’ve come to terms with death, finding a cause to die for can be a lot easier than finding one to live for.

capitalist alienation driving the “straight, white, male” demographic to the welcoming, embracing, accepting arms of the… fascist meatgrinder? well ig it costs less/is easier to access than therapy, so thanks again capitalism. life truly is miserable for most in capitalist Empire.
