Bonus points the Ken Martin stan account and others say this is all about how the dnc and Israel are scared of platner while also blaming the victims
Wait no, that it’s the neoliberals trying to keep control…
the only good thing that comes from lemmy.world is that it separates those people from hexbear.net and lemmygrad.ml
thought this was gonna be my annual update on LessWrong dorks.
One of the comment actually brought a good point
Assuming (for the sake of the argument), he didn’t know the totenkopf is a Nazi symbol, watching a WW2 movie must have been awkward
That’s funny, that Hans Landa character has my tattoo on his cap…
Kinda funny too for a someone in the military for so long- may as well be saying he doesn’t know the insignia for a colonel , or that Mac and cheese crayons don’t actually taste like Mac and cheese. I don’t buy it for a second, so he’s either a bad liar or wildly unintelligent even by military standards. Not even saying that precludes him from office -there are so many venues in the US for incompetent liars to succeed; just don’t be so obvious. Anyway I’m sure he’ll land on his feet, this is America after all
Oh he knew for sure, he deflected as best he could (not very)
Which was enough for a lot of people apparently…
Like my spouse regularly says, “If only I had the unjustified confidence of a highly mediocre white man”. You don’t gotta hand it to him, but I admire the social experiment of seeing how much people are willing to ignore/compromise. (Seriously…I’m still hung up on the fucking blackwater part. But there are way too many americans who have already memory holed that, and act like I’m a crazy military-historian for remembering basic-ass things)
It’s interesting how progressive liberals who have 100% trust in liberal media when it relates to US enemies suddenly seem to lose all their trust when the same media uses traceable sources to accuse a guy with a nazi tattoo of SA
Leave it to Fourth Reich NATO “leftists” to go to bat for a “reformed” Nazi, while simultaneously agitating against the evil scary tankies to the left of them. Something something, social fascism.
I talk with liberals who think like this everyday because of where I organize. In some ways I’m sympathetic because I see that a lot of people really do put in the work to organize because they want to make conditions better for everyone, but they simply don’t interrogate their own biases and blindspots and are very easily swayed. However, the arrogance in which they talk about their politics is so unbearable. Liberal education really is perfected to produce the most annoying people thinkable.
A lot of people have a lot to say about why the totenkopf is “not just” a nazi thing. Very niche opinion.
Its actually a ukrainian patriotic symbol <3
Okay but where’s the fucking lie
They should go down to a local tattoo parlor and ask for it then lol see how fast they get thrown out. Anyone who knows anything and isn’t acting in bad faith knows that.
I do believe the part about him getting it in Croatia lol. Your suggestion wouldn’t work there.
It is however from what I can see illegal to display Nazi symbols in Croatia, presumably including the totemkopf… So he would in fact have to have specifically asked for it.
It’s “illegal” like they tolerate it openly aside from big swastika flags
Ah, okay. Fair.
People saying it’s punk as if punks haven’t had to actively root out people who accidentally show up with fash symbols and that we haven’t been doing this since forever.
It happened before this, but the 90s were a wild time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritage_Front
Like seriously. I have never been part of the punk scene but I at least know who the fucking Dead Kennedys are.
well yes, but they’re right. the totenkopf is not just a nazi thing, it’s also apparently an american socdem thing.
That particular point has been driving me up a wall! It’s the fucking SS Totenkopf not some obscure nazi dogwhistle?!
I think it is pretty obscure for just random, non-history-nerd people from places where the OG Nazi party never had a presence. I would be surprised if anyone I know in Australia would peg it as a specifically Nazi symbol (though probably at least some would recognise it as being a generically evil symbol because of its association with fictional Nazis). But Platner, a WWII nerd who got the tattoo in a country where Nazi symbols are illegal to display, was always very obviously extremely aware of what he was getting.
The Nazis just got the little badges for their hats at the surplus store, silly.
