Man, I thought I couldn’t agree harder than the audiophile meme a few minutes ago. I was wrong.

Why is this really Ooo-coded, something Finn would say in Adventure Time. Almost like we adopted the language of the apocalypse because we are experiencing an apocalyptic extinction of human life from war, soon to be nukes, and global warming

Parents bragging about their kids is really sweet actually. Just as long as its about each kid individually and not like some weird collectors complex

Shoulda told him “Way to go, you and your wife have now doubled your replacement value. Now unless you’re planning on losing half of them to plague, famine, and war, you’re literally contributing to doubling the population density.”

Not worth bragging when you only do the easy (and fun) part of making children…

If they are actively going for a 4th, then he’s done something right. Raising 3 kids, with an unhelpful husband would be enough to put most women off having a 4th. Hell, even with a helpful husband!

Someone else being happy with their life isn’t a condemnation on yours.

Four kids and a husband sounds like a nightmare to me as well, but the father clearly is happy about it. And that’s ok.

Although the remark about bragging suggests that this guy is unaware of the existence of other standards, which is something he can be legitimately mocked for.

It was an attempt to be polite because he was expressing extreme happiness for himself and that can be taken as selfish in this type of social interaction.

Why are you taking offense to someone saying your lifestyle sounds terrible to them? They’re not saying you must be unhappy, just that they don’t want to live that way.

I don’t want kids, and I’m sure those with kids that they wanted are very happy, and I’m glad there are people for whom that is a happy life because it wouldn’t be to me.

Gotta edit my comment to say I was totally being autistic and completely missed your joke on the first pass, my bad!

I’m not taking offense. It sounded to me like the guy in this image was taking offense. I was asking the same questions, you’re asking me now. “Why would you take offense to someone saying they’re happy?” Clearly I’m the only one interpeting it that way

I don’t know if the original person in the picture meant it that way, but I do know that this meme is frequently used to start an antinatalist circle jerk, so I support you coming out swinging.

Nah you’re good. Your other comment acknowledged that having kids makes some people happy even if it wouldn’t make you happy.

Anti-natalists really are the worst at respecting other people’s choices.

It’s a question of figuring out who and what you are. What defines you and gives you purpose as an individual vs tryimg to stuff all of that into a role that leans heavily on another human being doing that for you.
