I feel like if a new startup suggested they were going to build a regular hotel on Earth in a place with good access to infrastructure, that would still be an overly optimistic timeframe unless they already had preexisting already-approved plans and ownership of the lot.

Like it’s not completely materially infeasible to suggest that a well funded and well connected organization could put like a little prefab shack on the moon within the next 6 years, that might be hypothetically safe enough that as long as nothing went wrong someone could survive in it for a few days before leaving, but that would still be stretching plausibility. A startup is just gonna pocket the money and string investors along as long as they can instead, because why accomplish the shitty-but-materially-possible when you can keep saying “yeah bro just a few billion more dollars bro you can relax in your moon hotel served by robot god bro it’ll be sweet bro just another trillion dollars bro” to the most credulous rubes alive and making bank doing that with no consequences ever.

I just saw a clip from one of the more recent Elon interviews on Joe Rogan where he was talking about colonizing Mars.

He started by saying “Just warm Mars up… Release CO2 and frozen water”. And even Joe Fucking Rogan was like “How would you do that”. And Elon said “you could build a miniature Sun” (!!!). And then he mentioned using nuclear weapons.

So Elon Musk’s bullshit is way way more advanced than building a hotel on the Moon. A Moon hotel is easy in comparison.

If it were China’s space agency saying that I’d believe it. Fortunately they are to based to even consider building an hotel for rich peoples, of all things, on the moon.

I believe CNSA’s time estimates because they are sensible, achievable, proceed logically from one step to the next, and have a record of being accurate.

    2032

I love these sorts of “by year X” grifts. When they were figuring out - you know they debated making the year 2036 but they decided that 10 years was too far away. 2031 is a nice round number so I assume some of the guys pushed for that year but maybe this happened…

“2031? That sounds fake and made up. Just five years? How about 2033?”

“Nah. It needs to be sooner so we can get that money. 2032? Sounds good to me.”

And a third guy says “Yeah, 2032. Goldilocks Zone…”

I love the very precise number, that makes it all so very believable. Also, even the “Cross on the Moon Coalition” hasn’t made any progress, now I’m supposed to believe there will be a hotel on the Moon? WHERE IS MY CROOS ON THE MOON

“Hotel on the moon” it’s not a hotel on the moon you lying fuckface fucks. It’s a dabbing station on the moon where the ultra rich will go and dab. It serves no other purpose.

a whitepaper more full of assumptions, assertions, and Despicable Me–themed hyperbole (“It’s time to steal the Moon” - really?) than actual technical details

agony-minion next you’re gonna tell me they secured funding from the Bank of Evil (formerly Lehman Brothers)

This is the type of financial scam backed up by bullshit “visions for the future” that passes for innovation in late stage capitalism folks.
