I think the biggest thing I hate about this AI bubble is that they managed to convince the lay person (and CEOs) that this iteration is actually “AI”. We have been throwing around AI for a long time but we all knew it wasn’t really “intelligence”.

However now that they have something that can speak more naturally (LLMs) and something that brute forces answers (ML) they’re trying to pass it off as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) even though it does not have the capacity to reason.

All this is, is a major hype train that they’ve realized they can swindle most of the world on and are trying to extract as much money as possible before people figure out what’s behind the curtain. And nvidia specifically is taking a huge gamble, along with OpenAI, that has to pay off or they’re fucked.

Bro talks about AI like they’re only a month away from making some self-aware supercomputer that will revolutionize humanity and can’t see past the fact LLMs are just glorified text/pixel prediction algorithms that have no intelligence and will never achieve self-awareness.

    Literally this meme.

“It’s not helpful. It’s not helpful to people. It’s not helpful to the industry. It’s not helpful to society. It’s not helpful to the governments,” he said.

Couldn’t have said it better mys- Ohhhh, he’s referring to backlash of AI, not AI.

I’ll stop being negative once it stops being an executive cash grab, once it stops wasting resources in furtherance of that, and once consumer PC hardware prices come back down to Earth. Then maybe I will consider the proposition, but maybe not.
