What’s your beverage of choice, comrades? I really love espresso or green and white teas, usually an espresso in the morning and tea throughout the day. What do y’all like?

Drink drink drink!
Chinese black tea. A small (200mL) cup in the morning and after lunch.
It’s flavorful enough that I don’t need to add any sugar or dairy (or substitutes), it gives me a little caffeine kick, and has other lovely stuff in it that does some calming jazz I’m not scienced up enough to really know how it works.
It’s just nice. And I don’t C R A V E it if I can’t have any for a few days.
Yep! Love a good Chinese white tea, especially when I can brew it multiple times.
Water and soda (yes I know sodas are bad for you). I do drink coffee when im out and I sometimes (rarely drink tea at home mostly during winter)
I do like Tea though. Should drink it more often as a healthier alternative to sodas
Tea is yummy!
You can cold brew high end teas to massively reduce bitterness and bring out a lot of the more subtle flavors. I do this with oolong tea and drink that all day at work. I used to drink a ton of soda and this helps me mellow that a lot. I was hitting a large Baja blast just about every day with lunch, then I found out my cholesterol was high and now I try to only go once or twice a month. Still love Baja, but the sugar really sets in my mouth now and feels sticky and gross afterwards.
Mostly water. I rip coffee hard at work cause im moving around a lot and thinking fast. Not a fan of most non herbal teas, im okay with a green tea here and there. I like oranges and cinnamon tasting hot water here and there but it’s not a regular thing. Smoothies are a big part of my rotation as well, vegan kefir blended with frozen mangoes and whatever fresh fruit is reasonably cheap
That smoothie recipe sounds great, I have to try that!
The grocery store near me carries a coconut kefir which isn’t great in its own but makes a great base. Sometimes I blend it with a couple bananas and some cocoa powder for a nice banana chocolate drink
Sounds yummy!
My most common beverage is and has always been just water. I drink water all the time. I think I stim with my water bottle.
But on the beverages that you actually need to make, it’s tea (but I do love a good coffee).
Used to drink way too much coffee, but nowadays I just have a really good cup sometimes, as a treat.
When I decided to stop my coffee drinking (thanks covid gi issues) I went all in with the tea stuff and got myself a nice teapot and started to buy better tea. I really like teas from Yunnan or Vietnam. The Yunnan golden monkey tea I got last year was one of the best teas I’ve ever had. But I do enjoy a good assam as well and my daily tea is Russian Earl Grey or some other strong Earl Grey with lots of lemon flavour. Or a tea called Yunnan Golden Needle.
I love the teas that have lots of the golden tips in them, also loving loose leaf teas more and more. Also tried a tea called dragon pearl a while ago, it was amazing.
I also discovered that I don’t like puerh at all. Although I like other fermented stuff, but this funk is just too funky for me.
Nice! It’s expensive, but sometimes I treat myself to Silver Needle tea. Very clean tasting, normally I like a bit of funk with my coffee but for tea the cleanliness is part of the appeal.
Yeah they can be pricy. I love that I have a local tea shop where you can buy a tasting bag of a tea to try it out first. It’s always still enough to make a whole pot or several cups, but it isn’t terribly pricy. This is how I was able to try the handrolled dragon pearl.
I have gone very bourge with this tea stuff I’ll admit. It’s become my main caffeine treat so I splurge on it.
Oh, sounds nice! I might have to see if there’s something like that around me. I splurge on coffee equipment (but not to the extreme levels some people do) so I totally understand!
Caffeine is such a weird fickle thing for me. Depending on what I’m doing it can seriously stimulate me way too much, causing a ton of anxiety. I’ve never had much success with teas unfortunately, because tea seems to be much more gentle (theres some thought that theres other compounds in tea that take the edge off). I just can’t get over the bitterness of teas despite putting in some effort to try to get over it.
I do really like the flavored drinks with mate extract (brewed directly from the leaves its still super bitter for me). I’ve considered buying a jug of extract myself and just making my own mixture to leave in the fridge, but honestly I mostly just accept that I shouldn’t rely on caffeine unless I really a stim.
My ADHD messes with how stimulants work on me, so I basically need it to focus, haha. Tea doesn’t have to be bitter! Try brewing at a lower temperature, some teas can be gentle and sweet!
I have ADHD as well but unfortunately it can still cause me a lot of anxiety. I’m not sure, might be a blood pressure thing? I used to work at a coffee shop so I spent a ton of time trying different teas and seeing ways I could make them more palatable (green tea lattes were pretty good).
Ah, gotcha, sorry to hear that. Might be more of a me thing, then.
No I think that relationship between ADHD and stims is pretty normal. For example, cocaine makes me get really quiet and largely my thoughts turn inward, which is kinda paradoxical to the normal response (and is maybe a good reason I should try ritalin again, as I’m not really a big fan of adderall and I think ritalin is somewhat more similar to cocaine). Like I said I think I’m just an oddball, I’ve definitely talked to a number of other people with ADHD that have leaned on caffeine for help, especially before they were medicated.
Huh, interesting. I used to have “dark thoughts” on nirmal ADHD meds, so I stopped taking them and starting self-medicating with caffeine. No dark thoughts, but sometimes I get anxiety, might not even be related lol. Not as effective as the meds were, sadly.
Thats actually my exact problem with adderall! No matter the dose (obviously higher dose is worse) I get really REALLY grumpy/moody as it wears off. My previous partner was medicated during covid and they worked insane hours as a epidemiologist at the time and while there was a lot going on at the time I was certain that she was getting similar side effects (they ended up increasing their dose over and over as a crummy bandaid to deal with 10-12 hours work days). Now I’m at the point where I don’t want to medicate except when I really feel like what I’m doing warrants it, and even then I often feel like its suboptimal.
Yep, that tracks! Coffee gives me enough focus to function, and the tradeoffs aren’t nearly as bad. Glad things seem to at least be falling into a groove for you!
what i like to have is this moroccan mint tea that i drink every morning

Nice! I would give up caffeine if I wasn’t so in love with coffee
coffee gives me big stomach issues, idk why green tea hits different but i’m glad it does. won’t be giving up caffeine any time soon cause i need at least a bit of it to get through the day lol
Coffee can do that, it’s fairly acidic. Tea seems to be less so, generally! That’s why I like it later in the day.
1-2 cups of pourover coffee. Something third wave but on sale so it ends up being like $0.30-.50 per cup. If I want more I switch to decaff.
I like that I can cut out all plastics with pourover, it is easy to clean, and very easy to replace anything that breaks. I don’t really care about the ritual and would replace it with a drip machine if they’d make any without plastic.
Nice! I had a big pourover phase before mine broke and I never replaced it.
I’m drinking either Green Tea mixed with Rum and Lime or straight water with very little variation.
Choice picks.
in the morning i just drink 32oz of water. then 2 hours or so after i wake up i just make some instant coffee. i find if i drink it as soon as i wake up, it makes me sleepy.
throughout the day i’ll have anywhere from 2 to 5 cups of instant coffee
Nice! I’ve been fueled by instant coffee for months at a time when I worked second shift.
Honestly, a lot of it depends on the effort I can put forth at the moment. Usually tho, first thing in the morning is a double espresso cuz its quick an efficient. Later in the morning/afternoon I may indulge in a latte. Sometimes after work I’ll do another double espresso before getting started on making dinner.
Not gonna lie, having an all-in-one espresso machine makes it so easy and mindless, but I really should incorporate more tea, I love a nice earl gray.
I’m also very guilty of the mid-day red bull instead of coffee.
I feel like I’d die of caffeine overdose if I did it that way, haha!
Yeah, I might have a problem lol.
We all do, lol
Coffee by a mile, favorite beverage of all time, although recently I’ve tried cutting back on the caffeine and go for tea more (non-caffeinated ones)
Yep! Same here, tea helps me balance the caffeine intake.
Im switching to pharmacutical caffeine because its cheaper, mostly i drink tap water and coffee with cold soymilk
i dont like to have fun
Cold brew coffee > good coffee/americano > espresso > tea > crappy coffee
The harsh truth is I drink bad coffee when I crave caffeine and it doesnt bother me much.
I’m not a snob about coffee, I’ll drink the cheap stuff, even though the price on it keeps going up so it’s really not cheap anymore
Oh yes, all of the above are better than a caffeine deprivation headache.
would anyone like to learn how to say cold brew in Chinese?
冰 酿

Cold brew tends to make bad coffee good, but good coffee tends to be better when brewed normally, in any method.
Too much coffee in the morning, usually from a moka pot, followed by some tea, usually PG Tips, to round out the caffeine buzz. I don’t know why tea does that since it contains caffeine too. I’ve heard it’s the l-theanine but
