It’s been cozy week. We watched Sword in the Stone, Babe and we are in the process of watching Hachiko.

We attempted to watch Coraline and Bambi as well, but Coraline wasn’t the right kind of cozy for this week and Bambi is honestly incredibly boring if I may be so blunt. Love the artistry, especially the backgrounds, but the narrative and pacing is very annoying. I have always had a problem with movies where I get the sense that the people who made it didn’t really have much to say and instead stretch out the time with gags that go nowhere and characters meandering without much purpose. Mostly, it is clear that Bambi is from the experimental time at Disney where they wanted to make Fantasia type movies that were less driven by story and more driven by mood. Bambi wants to be a vibe, but is still trying to be story with dialogue and I don’t think it works. I think it would have been better if the whole movie had leaned into the Fantasia angle and been a silent film with compelling visuals timed to dramatic music. We could still have the story about a deer growing up and stepping into the role of a king by the end. Just leave out the annoying and useless dialogue and commit to the idea. Maybe also cut it down to half an hour max and have it be a tight, but engaging sensory experience.

Werewolves Within - definitely up there with the best of the best of videogame-based movies Arco (2025) - good but

    vague spoilers

I needed way more screentime in the solarpunk part and less in the rest

Vesper (2022) - excellent biopunk film

La Bola Negra. Excellent film. Gorgeous, and a deeply painful and necessary story. Go catch it in the big screen if you can.
