I find it fascinating how hard it is for idealists to imagine a better world. It should be the other way around, materialists should look at the world and go wow it feels hopeless. And yet we’re the ones that actually can imagine a better world and don’t give up on it. The idealists just give up entirely on a better world and then double and triple down on their own despair.
That’s such an interesting observation. Maybe it’s rooted in how we come to the materialist framework, so it always remains available like a set of tools, and even though the world seems hopeless my tools tell me that there are opportunities for change all around us. Dialectical materialism is kinda like walking around with the pocket scanner from Star Trek
