Might be cheating slightly with this one, but the 2021 movie “Mass” mostly takes place in one room, except for the opening and the ending of the film.
It is two couples meeting up in a humble meeting room at a church to talk about something incredilby traumatic, that happened to all four of them.
I recommend going into this movie blind. It is a painfully devastating drama that will leave you completely exhausted emotionally. At the same time, it shines a light on a very relevant and important issue. The acting and writing is great. The subject matter is handled with a lot of empathy and it saddens me that not more people have seen it and talked about it.
Fair warning, though: if you are at all easy to tears, you are going to ugly-cry throughout this movie.
Was also gonna mention Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf, but I actually dont remember if they do stay in one location most of the movie or not. I think they do. It’s another film with two couples hanging out and talking. In this case, the older couple end uo having a massivr fight while the younger couple is trapped in the middle of it. Fucking intense movie and even though it’s from the 60s, you kinda forget all about that while watching. In my memory, it felt very fresh and relevant. It also has Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the roles as the older couple, so you know shit is going to go down.
Also, The Invitation from 2015! A psychological horror/thriller about a group of friends meeting up after basically losing contact due to a tragic event. Most of the movie takes place in and around one house, during one evening while the main character seems to be the only one noticing that something is messed up about this dinner party. It’s a mostly forgotten, but very solid film in my opinion.
