I was always big on Samus. I inherited a copy of Super Metroid from my dad and got copies of Metroid Prime 1 and 2 alongside Smash, so I was a HUGE Metroid fan as a kid and that absolutely influenced my decision to main her.

Melee Yoshi is so cool and definitely my favorite to watch, but he’s also really hard so I don’t play him as much as some others. When you do manage to parry or armor through something and counter-hit into a big combo it feels awesome though. My two favorite to play are Peach and Luigi: Peach because the float mechanics are really fun to play with and because her play style works well for me in general, and Luigi because it’s just so much fun to slide around with his giant wavedash, and his combos can be really satisfying too.

During my melee tournament traveling days I remember getting absolutely assblasted by some yoshi player and I’ll never forget that one

Marth is or was, I used to be good at smash and then they changed what good is and now what I am ain’t good and what is good isnt strange or confusing to me, but way too much work, the character I would bring out when being srs, I did get a stock on m2k way back when he was doing exhibition tours. It was a lucky one that was more like a SD that I happened to tap him before. I’m a big grabber with him, that weirdly long range makes for a great bait punish. Back throw and for a ken combo setup. I stopped paying attention to competitive stuff over a decade ago and my moves are still in that era but im worse at em.

My secondary for melee is Luigi. I also play a really frustrating to deal with Ness, but its hard to bring home the KOs with him

Barely played any of them, but I learned how to fall asleep with jigglypuff like twenty years ago or something and my go-to strategy is just trying to sleep next to the other players as much as possible every match.

I know Metaknight is considered overpowered by some, but I love him because of how fluid his moveset is. I played Donkey Kong and Pikachu in the older titles.

The OG anime sword man, Link!

I pretty much never use special moves. down-a and smash attacks all day, every day. If I’m mixing in specials it’s because I’m trying to close the distance.

Mewtwo. Loved pokemon as a kid and saw the first movie and was like “wow Mewtwo is sooo cool!”, then my cousin introduced me to melee and I was over the moon Mewtwo was playable. Mewtwo is low-tier, but they’re MY low-tier dammit!

So it’s really just all nostalgia here.
