please, give me a GOOD asymmetric warfare game where we get to smoke imperialist soldiers and liberate the homeland. WHY does this not exist yet, i swear it’s a bourgeois conspiracy. People love underdogs overcoming the odds and it would have such a natural sense of progression as you go from scrappy guerillas in the woods to leading sweeping offensives with your People’s Liberation Army.

It is absurd that the best we have in this genre is fucking Homefront The Revolution, Arma mods (Antistasi), and the satirical text-based Liberal Crime Squad made by the dwarf fortress guy (very funny I recommend). It doesn’t even need to be Amerikkkan soldiers you’re killing but holy shit if it was it would be so peak.

I want a Marxist version of The Stanley Parable, where your main goal is to simply get through your day, doing only things you want to do, but this annoying voice keeps telling you about how your actions have consequences and won’t shut up about dialectical materialism blah blah blah

I’d love a Cold War game where you play as the Soviets… but it’s literally just the Space Race, and your goal is to explore the solar system faster than the US can.

      free breakfast simulator

Is this something where you run the BPP’s free breakfast for schoolkids program?

I’d absolutely love that as a combination resource management/strategy game and cooking game. You have to manage food supplies and limited funding, book the church halls and community halls, address state sabotage, sectarian incidents at the churches that affect you by accident, and other random events, and raise funds and food donations for the party broadly and the program specifically, and actually cook and serve the food to the kids a la the Papa’s games. A commie cooking game with Cold War shit.

In Victoria 3 I guess laws are just stats shuffled around but the entire game is “Which number go up or down” so it doesn’t feel like that. Watching standard of living skyrocket when you pass cooperative ownership feels like you’ve really done something

Vicky 3 is really fun for me cause it’s early enough in timeline to avoid frustrating Cold War shit, but still complex and interesting to set off revolution or make meaningful reform, when you first have to invent dialectical materialism, spending research resources that you could be putting into improving your industry or other immediate benefits, and it really does model the theory of building productive forces first to be able to even invent socialism, let alone enact it, very well, especially if you choose a small nation to begin with. I did it as Ireland, because I absolutely smash the Celtic Isles every time in CK2, the only other Paradox title I’d ever played when I got my paws on Vicky 3 specifically because all the reviews called it a dialectical materialism simulator and I wanted to know if it was really based on Marxist economic thought or if GamersTM were just big mad because council republics, cooperative ownership, and central planning were possible to enact and processed goods are worth more than their input goods because labour is worth something. Well, independent Ireland is a lot worse in Vicky! But, I released all of Great Britain’s releasables when I set it up, so at least that created some fun alt history.

(Though, a small nation makes it easy to get literacy high, which improves your research speed, because you don’t have many people, and until you join a larger market and attract migration, you won’t get many people, so you don’t necessarily need the amount of state infrastructure and therefore productive enterprise to support it that a larger nation might need to get literacy high enough to be a proper socialist state… both to research socialism nice and early and still have time to actually get it enacted and enjoy it, and because, well, ever checked the global rankings of countries by literacy rate? ; ) Commies want people to read! Lol.)

I think a grand strategy game in which you create productive forces and handle international relations (and try not to get couped) in a young socialist nation would work just fine.

Two different genres. GSG is like Victoria, 4X is like Age of Empires. Stellaris is a rare example of a game which blends 4X and GSG together, but it’s the only time Paradox development studios has ever touched the 4X genre.

Obviously Stellaris works really well as a game, so there’s something there but idk how you would make colonialism socialist without the benefit of outer space terra nullius.

I am aware that GSGs such as Victoria and 4X games such as Civ are different genres (Age of Empires is an RTS game, btw).

I was just meaning to say that GSGs such as Victoria would work just fine as a simulation of socialist systems.

On the space 4X front, couldn’t you just limit expansion to uninhabited worlds? Would that still be colonialism if there are no natives? And if you focus on peaceful, diplomacy-focused trade? Because I can totally imagine such a space game. Even if it would be an unusal game for its gerne. (Some of that is already possible in Stellaris)

Im not trying to gotcha you here I legit dont know if mere space “expansion” counts as colonialism if there are no native species ( I mean most planets arent gonna have intelligent life on them)

OH MY GOD I can’t believe I’m so baked I mentally swapped Civ and AoE. Yes, I meant Civilization, lmao.

But yeah, we’re in agreement. Having truly uninhabited worlds to expand to is what makes it not colonialism. That just wouldn’t work for a game set on earth because there just wasn’t really any uninhabited land to expand to.

Wouldn’t it just be a reskin of MOO?

All the alien races represent different socialist tendencies, maybe a few races are capitalist (to feel less guilty about being more into the war fighting aspects… or just being a sicko going on a genocide run), AI has the same randomized “quirks” like MOO to keep the AI from immediately collaborating with the player on turn one, “politics” screens have more options that actually seem to have a sustained positive effect on relations, the victory condition isn’t “you become the galactic overlord or you are exiled from the galaxy”… other things of that nature.

Community builder. Finding a place for everyone and their skills.

Building and designing spaces for disabled people specific to their needs after they call a government hotline.

rimworld fits the first idea pretty well when playing on peaceful, buildin your little town for your dipshits. when i play like this, i like to have a decent hospital and i rescue everyone who spawns on map, hostile faction or friendly. tho if the hostile pawn has good skills its goin thru reeducation camp

still get some negative events like disease outbreaks, iceage, nuclear fallout etc just no raids from other factions

Yes, omg yes, I want to play all of these so much. The idea of resource management/city builder, but you load into a city already built, having trouble with its supply lines and its garbage, and you have to, using recycling infrastructure and environmental regulations, recover needed resources and bring the amount of trash going into the landfill down… that sounds awesome.

A mystery game in a creepy town where I’m one of the cadre sent down to help the village transition into socialism. The locals talk of a monster lurking in the night, is it a myth, a man cast out from society, a monster, and what should I do about it if I find it?

I want a paradox-like map game that is actually a socioeconomic simulator, even if it isn’t “fun”. I want a model that can accurately simulate a development of a species from its dawn to modern times. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a game, but a software tool that could be used for research purposes. And instead of playing a country, you play as a people, for example, organizing for revolution/liberation from colonizers instead of just announcing your communist from the top down.

Something set in the Cold War, where you are General Secretary of a socialist state. You must run the economy (managing resources, not just money), handle complaints and balance everyone’s needs, and combat the capitalist threat without committing too many resources to “National Defense” or causing a Red Scare type citizen panic.
