Watched obsession and loved it
Thought the first season of Legion was decent, but second season jumped the shark so hard. Some pretty cool highs but super low lows and overall felt contrived and incoherent. Skimmed most of the last half. I was mostly watching it for Hamish Linklater anyway, who I really liked in Midnight Mass.
Speaking of which, just finishing up a Flanagan kick. Life of Chuck was pretty decent. Ouija and Oculus were okay. Hill house and midnight mass are probably his best, usher is solid, midnight club is fine but too YA for me, and Bly was undercooked and could have been way better.
Nosferatu was good.
The Batman wasn’t very memorable. Showing wide-scale institutionalized police corruption is a step up for superhero movies I suppose but it still had to do The Swerve as well as Not All Cops towards the end. Admittedly wasn’t giving it full attention.
Been reading the new edition of ‘Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation’ and started watching Hypernormalisation because it was mentioned in the new preface. Ngl it’s kind of crazy how consistently goated british documentaries are.
Also i watched The Full Monty after the world cup final, naked men are so cool waow

King of the Hill season 15 comes out today. It’s season 2 of the reboot. Season 14 was decent.

Obsession, Backrooms and Stalker. The first two were serviceable horror movies, and Stalker was a lot headier than I thought it would be.
For anyone interested, look into how Stalker got made. Multiple people involved died from being exposed to toxic abandoned locations they shot in, including the director himself.
Also, they had to reshoot most of it because the film turned out to be unusable.
The 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead directed by horror legend Tom Savini(He was going to work on the original but got drafted)
It’s a good film. Has Tony Todd as Ben, and Barbara has an actual character instead of just screaming and crying, which she still does but as part of a much better character arc
I think it’s pretty great. The effects are much better, since it was made with decades of hind sight and a bigger budget.
I finished Venture Bros, and then The Tick (1994) because Chris “Jackson Publick” McCullough worked on both. It’s interesting to see how much DNA The Tick shares with Venture Bros, though VB is closest to the original Tick comics.
It’d be cool for there to be a crossover. What would OSI or The Guild make of The Tick? His EMA rating’s gotta be at least an 8, based solely on how hard it is to kill him.
I watched Letters From Iwo Jima Friday night and really enjoyed it. Following the the Japanese side of the battle and seeing them for the humans they actually were instead of just brutal savages was good.

i watched Backrooms finally. i didn’t do any prior research and wasn’t really connected with the lore at all, besides seeing that the concept originally came from creepypasta / scp type shit.
anyway, it was creepy lol. does it ever seem like Mark Duplass is on some kind of speed dial phone tree for anytime someone pitches a weird flick? anyway, i didn’t dislike it and liked how it all unfolded.
i also watched a 2007 movie called Rocket Science, which has a very young Anna Kendrick in a supporting role. lots of familiar people in it, but not a big budget flick with any big names besides AK. i would describe it as indie comedy. it’s about high school shit, but the themes are far more mature. super off beat and goes surprising places, but cracked me the hell up along the way. the concept is high school kid with a stutter is drafted into the debate team, but there’s a lot more going on. kind of a hidden gem.
Oh shit I didn’t know duplass was in backrooms. I might actually check it out
i watched backrooms last night. it was super creepy until the last 15 minutes then it just seemed to drop off and get real dumb like almost every horror movie does at some point. Also the end pissed me off a bit.
The ending was very confusing to me as well until I watched part of the original YouTube playlist. The original content is 22 videos long. That’s a lot of footage; one of the videos is even 45 min long. Backrooms is really ultimately an extended sequel to all of that content, so I would strongly recommend that you watch at least the first 5-10 videos of Kane’s original playlist on YouTube. He even has an official one in order, so that makes it easy to go through.

Creep is really good and the sequel is even better. I’ve seen the first few episodes of the TV show that were supposed to be the third film but I haven’t got around to finishing it. From what I understand, the first half is really repetitive (which is why I stopped), with the second half completely changing pace.
I’ve been loving S3 of Interview with the Vampire. Huge tonal shift, and some characters feel strange considering earlier characterization, but it’s such a fun romp.
Plus Sam Reid can sing, and he’s so hot.
i watched a bunch of stuff since my partner was out of town for her annual work meet up thing and that’s the only time o can ever watch anything i want to watch. unfortunately it was mostly crap and I’ve already forgotten most of it
i got pretty far into For All Mankind which is somewhat okay.
i also started rewatching Mr. Robot but only made it to episode 2. I really liked that show 10 years ago. I wonder if it will still hold up.
I fell off of Mr. Robot in like season 2 or 3, whenever they decided “capitalism isn’t the real evil, it’s actually China”
i dropped Mr. Robot after like 3 episodes, i couldnt bear it with it being so Occupy/2010 coded it felt more like a time capsule to those times than a show that still holds up today

People tell me that, but I quit after like one and a half episode. The fact that a not insignificant part of the show is complaining about regulation and health and safety got to me. Does that ever let up?

Watched Love Letter (1995) a Shunji Iwai film with J-pop idol Miho Nakayama and it was really good. It’s set during winter during all of it (if I remember) and it features his same really sweet, quirky story beats. Really like winter films in general. Also, finally watched Chinatown which was amazing. It’s so bleak and the score is really beautiful.
Rewatched Suspiria w our sister, unfortunately was v tired and got sleepy in the 3rd act (not the movies fault Suspiria is amazing) and just cuddled w her until it ended
Watched the first episodes of a bunch of airing anime w her and some others, we liked surprisingly many of them! Theres 6 were gonna try to keep watching, the Ghost in the Shell reboot, Chainsmoker Cat and A Witch in Mongolia were our favorites
Up to season 5 in rewatching Better Call Saul, it was already one of our favorites the first time round and we like it even more this time :3
