I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as the podcast subreddit /r/chapotraphouse3, is in fact, Lemmy/Hexbear, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Lemmy plus Hexbear. The podcast subreddit is not a social platform unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Fediverse system made useful by the ActivityPub, web interfaces and moderation tools comprising a full social network as defined by open standards.
Many internet users run a modified version of a Lemmy community every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Lemmy which is widely used today by Chapo fans is often called “the podcast subreddit”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically a Lemmy community on Hexbear, developed by the Fediverse.
There really is a subreddit called /r/chapotraphouse3 on Reddit, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. A subreddit is the container: the grouping within Reddit that allocates the website’s resources to the posts and comments that you view. The container is an essential part of a social website, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete website. Reddit is normally used in combination with the Lemmy/Hexbear federated system: the whole system is basically Lemmy/Hexbear with Reddit added, or Reddit/Lemmy/Hexbear. All the so-called “podcast subreddit” links are really just links to a Lemmy/Hexbear community.
