I have yet to hear anything negative on the EU side about Canada being a member of EU.
I think the biggest problem could be the for Canada on US trade relations. USA is after all still their closest and biggest market to trade with.

On the other hand, EU is the biggest trading block in the world, and may be able to achieve better trade agreements with USA in the long run than Canada standing alone.

The EU is more than just FTAs and diplomatic pleasantries. For example, the TEN-T network now doesn’t make sense if we were to take in Canada, because how are we going to connect a continent that’s separated by an ocean? We can’t.

They can’t take any of our technical standards because they’d be using it alone on the entire north american continent. So essentially they’ll lock themselves off from the other nations.

Lastly, have you seen how the place looks? Many of the politicians are flat out against technological progress in renewable energies or against preparing for the consequences of climate change. Their entire country, much like the USA, is lacking a lot of public transport. Without a car, you’re dead there.

Lastly, we’d have thousands of kilometres of borders that are directly adjacent to an adversary. We don’t need another Russia in front of our doorstep. Let alone one that we need to fight on an isolated continent away from the mainland. Greenland is already exposed, but the only benefit here is that ships take at least a week to show up there, significantly complicating logistics. There is no option for an easy land invasion. With Canada there would be. And this isn’t hypothetical, as the orange cunt has stated multiple times it would annex Canada if given a chance.

IMO it would be bad for our Union.

Well, i am honestly a bit sceptical of the EU having a virtually uncontrollable, enormous border with the US. But as long as canada does not join Schengen, i think thst is not a EU problem.

Other then that, i would be more than happy to have them.

True, but USians don’t need visa to enter Schengen. So I don’t know how much of a difference it makes

I can only see the positive things it would bring:

Absolutely true, but at least EU is also pretty powerful economically. And Trump quickly pulled back when he threatened EU with further taxes after we had made an agreement, because EU threaten to retaliate.
