Today I had to change the display settings on a friend’s Windows 11 laptop for a presentation.

The Start Menu failed to load… And stayed a completely white rectangle.

I gave up waiting on it and accessed the settings from the system tray.

Insight fairness to Microsoft I’ve had Windows 10 do that. It’s because the explorer utility has crashed, you just need to restart it but it’s stupid that it can’t detect that it’s crashed and restart explorer on its own.

But the windows task manager has been terrible for a long time.

I swear the relentless feature and tip popups are now AI generated too…

Yesterday, I connected Excel to a database, pulled and cleaned up some data with PowerQuery, then loaded it in. Popup was like, "Did you know you can change the colours and theme of your query tables?’ and points to the window previewing different table colours…

No human would be so dumb to have made it.

It’s like someone just engine-swapprd a car, and someone stands in front of them pointing, “Hey, did you know you can put oil in your engine by unscrewing this cap?”

I turn these things off in the settings, but it doesn’t work. Every day it’s like three or four absolutely moronic and in the way popups. It is an absolute pleasure to log off the work computer each afternoon and go back to Linux.

I don’t think anyone’s a Windows enthusiast anymore than anybody is a breathing enthusiast.

If you want to exist in the 21st century and have a job then you have to use windows outside of some very specialist professions.
