JFK was still an anti-communist imperialist, but he increasingly thought the best strategy for winning the cold war, and getting the world to line up behind US wasn’t more war, but soft-power initiatives like the space race, and more equitable economic ties with global south countries. His disagreements with chancellor Dulles led to his killing, Dulles’ restoration, and Dulles heading the investigation of JFK’s murder.

I suspect the involvement of the CIA or some of their rogue assets, either mobsters or gusanos. He was allegedly warming towards Cuba, and I think that may have been part of the motivation. Blowback Season 2 made a pretty convincing argument for that scenario.

This isn’t my bailiwick, but I think Peter Dale Scott and Arron Good may have some of the best answers. I don’t pay much attention to the matter, but IIRC, James Angleton and the Dulles brothers very likely were involved. It helps to ask: who covered up what really happened?
Getting into crackpot territory here, but I think the assassination might very well have had some connection to MKULTRA. The CIA destroyed all the files related to this, and so unless they missed some, we’ll probably never know for certain.

I think Kennedy is a mole trap.
It’s the most well documented conspiracy ever, literally the textbook example of conspiracy theories. Every detailed has been looked at time and time again by every pair of braincells ever interested in conspiracy. There’s absolutely no chance that the government doesn’t have every single facet of it fully understood. Instead of giving it a case closed and a pretty bow, they leave it out there as a test. Any time some quack comes out with “secret insider information” and mentions Kennedy, they know they can write him off because anyone that really knows would know the Kennedy thing is a joke.
Every so often an agent has to go stir thr pot by asking this question so everyone still thinks it’s important.

How is there any utility in being able to identify a few crackpots—only the ones who happen to crack their pot on this one particular event? How is Identifying crackpots of any use to the state?
Think of it like an expert playing dumb to catch someone lying about their specific field of study.
If I go out and say I’m a former government agent who had access to the must classified of classified documents, someone has to actually look into that on the off chance it’s real. If I follow by mentioning I know the truth about Kennedy, you can basically close the case there as there’s no “truth” to be known.
I met a guy named Sam Pate. He was a radio guy in Dallas in the 60s and was live on the air when it happened. But let me ask you this: in a case we know was an assassination that anyone involved would cover their tracks in a case with so much chicanery and blacked out information and contradictory information is it really so unbelievable that someone was helping or hired an assassination of the president? We know how invasive and omnipresent the surveillance is of our modern government, imagine how much more it would be during the height of the cold war or shortly after.
