This project is supposed to be complete in 2050, so I assume this is just existing track that they were able to claim for development but have to replace.

My point is that they are dragging their feet just to bring back infrastructure we already had decades ago.

lathe-of-heaven california will get high speed rail by 2050, but with maximal irony as part of the american century of humiliation. built by contractors from the people’s republic of china starting in 2041 after decades of inaction by the california government, it will be completed by 2050.

and just in time for the big red button xi-button

Actually, this is the entire rail network in North Korea and the passengers have to push the train themselves

We used to have an amazing rail system

There used to literally be curbside rail service to the pier where I grew up.

Now we can’t even get something through a planning process in 10 years.

          Not profitable. So basically capitalism.

Also yes I grew up in SC, I know a professor that used to teach classes with angela davis and he has Huey Newton’s record collection and weight set.

Apparently Huey was a real big fan of pop music lol.

Ah, no surprise there I guess.

lol I graduated from the UC, heard Huey attended didn’t know he liked pop music. I met a professor who was a former Black Panther member, ran a class that helped humanize people without housing. Idk if we’re talking about the same dude but Franklin Williams is his name.

Our trains outside of AMBA and MardelPlata run at an average speed of 30 km/h

99% of grains get to ports and mills only via trucks

        Container-carrying trains are inexistent basically

this is also a picture of the hsr corridor yes it’s progressing slowly but there is plenty of actual construction happening. the alignment is even visible in Google maps cutting through the farm fields.

You can see most of the ROW in the central valley on google maps. It’s the tunnels that are the real issue since they haven’t started any of the three main passes yet.

And I could post a photo of a farm in China and accurately say “This is an actual picture of the supposed HSR train corridor in China” because things have to be built, and the past and present exist. Because isn’t that what you’re doing? Posting a before photo to disingenuously dunk on California instead of talking about oh, the dozen or so things wrong with their rail project?

It’s not disingenuous when I live here and they have been talking about this for decades while existing infrastructure is left to rot.

What existing infrastructure? Highways? Let them rot. Existing rail? I agree, the state should expropriate the railroads and electrify everything.

        In conclusion, ban cars.

What part of the corridor is this? CHSR is a bit of a shitshow but the project is generally progressing (at an absolute snail’s pace) and it already has a couple bridges built.
