• From my understanding, which could certainly be outdated/wrong, paper straws require a lot more carbon emissions to produce than plastic ones. Personally I’m more worried about climate change than plastic waste, so especially given the fact you need 2 paper straws to finish a drink and plastic straws are a tiny tiny tiny portion of plastic waste I’ll take the plastic. The correct solution is to only give straws on request. Most people don’t need straws most of the time.

But more importantly who the fuck cares why is this what you’re focusing your time on? Like I guess better for me that you’re wasting your time on this but what?

Imagine what we could do if we had a big, centralized push from the government to normalize carrying and reusing your own water bottle/stanley cup/tumbler/whatever else. We’re still talking about a very small proportion of the problem but I think it’s totally doable (although it would have to be followed through on, since half-assing it would just result in a lot more waste making reusable bottles that don’t get reused enough times to justify their production).

Plastic straws are a part of climate change no? Plastic pollution destroys ecosystems, including reefs which hold massive amounts of carbon

Simple. You see, paper straws are gay. If Trump doesn’t come out against paper straws, people might think he’s gay.
