Then can we join the EU please
“buy Greenland” and “invade Mexico”
Geee, I wonder why the difference in acquisition methods. /s
“To increase defense, security and economic cooperation,” WTF?!?! The Orange Shit Stain is threatening a trade war with the EU, which includes Denmark, and he wants to bust up NATO. Liar.
What would Russia do?
Why is Trump so fixated on Greenland? Nuuk has less than 20,000 residents and the island is only really known for its fishing industry.
Also I’m sure Denmark are part of NATO already so there’s already no additional military importance from buying the land.
Well trump wants to exit NATO so there’s that
There is potentially an immense amount of rare earth minerals buried under one of the largest supplies of freshwater. And it’s close to the arctic which would make it convenient location for refineries with arctic oil and gas.
Resources and climate refuge can’t be the major reason. Too long term payoffs.
Military bases threatening Europe or the us depending on control, is only a big deal when considering policies that raise anger.
You’re giving too much credit if you think he thought of it. Others want him to get it for them. He’s old and unhealthy, but a useful stooge in the interim.
Spot on!
People think there is gas and oil under Greenland. And because of global warming it becomes much easier to extract it. Also Trump probably wants be closer to Moscow.
It looks bigly huge on a map, and he likes that.
It’s a very large secluded island that’s about to get livable and he’s a real estate guy, a bad one but still. He’s not playing chess, he’s trying to buy land to setup billionaire playlands with zero poors. Don’t really want to live in the country filled with poors you just fucked up, that would be insane.
Why do I have a feeling he saw the Mercator version of Greenland and was having size envy and wants it.
Somehow that is the first thing that makes sense for his obsession with Greenland.
Maybe he thinks that post climate change it will be valuable real estate.
Statistically he’s not gonna live the 10 years it’ll take, right?
He does not have the mental capacity to think that far ahead.
This is the real answer
It can’t be true. There’s no way he said that. It has to be a fake message.
Fuck me this guy has lost the god-damned plot and he’s not even in office yet.
Can we just build a replica oval office at Mar A Lago and having him play president while someone real just takes over? Fuckkkkk
Have him hang out at kid rocks, dude is a psychopath too but his house is a white house replica.
Like Elon? Already happening.
Just build a 2nd oval office decoy on mars.
🤣🤣🤣
The next ICJ announcement is going to be funny
Truth social. So it’s Pravda. Straight up propaganda.
It’s a direct quote from Trump’s account.
And Hitler wanted Poland, France, Russia, and a few others. See what it got him.
A lot of those until the combined effort of Europe, the US and Russia stopped him.
I don’t know, but when the coming leader of the nation with the largest military in the world and the second most nukes is throwing wild conquest fantasies around, some about allies, I can’t help but get a little bit nervous.
Only in a world where you screw over your allies…
It would lead to the breakup of NATO, so guess who’s idea this was.
The US annexing Greenland is all it would take? How so? I’m asking because I’m woefully undereducated in these matters. Couldn’t we form our own NATO, without the US but with blackjack and universal health care?
Greenland belongs to Denmark. Denmark doesn’t want to give it up. So annexing it would constitute an attack of one NATO member on another.
Denmark leaves the decision to Greenland’s government on who to ally with.
Exactly. Also, Europe can and likely will start its own defensive alliance sooner or later. But with the US constituting more than half the military power of NATO right now, that won’t amount to much other than keeping the Russians in check.
Ah, so the issue is that NATO, in order to be effective, is very much dependent on the US being in it. Bother.
Not really, NATO is a nuclear power and a several times bigger conventional military power than Russia, even without the US.
That said, it would be shit fighting against the US. For everyone involved.
It’s an interesting thought exercise - US has the base formerly known as Thule. My father was stationed there decades ago, however according to Wikipedia, it’s part of Space Command now. I can’t imagine that being much of an offensive force, nor being near anything.
Meanwhile Wikipedia lists a Dutch navy detachment splitting time between there and Faroes
Luckily it seems like both would have a difficult time asserting a military option, and any such misadventure would likely be dominated by the weather. It’s hard to believe the residents would approve
How much do native Greenlanders like being governed by Denmark, would they conceivably be better off as US citizens? Obviously self governance is best but could they defend their own territory in that case. I think there’s a case to be made for this idea and few Americans regret having Alaska as part of the union.
Greenland is autonomous, it is part of the kingdom but governs itself.
Hope that helps.
Last time this idea was brought up, the Danish response was clear: Denmark can’t sell Greenland because it’s not ours to sell. The Greenlanders rejected the offer.
There’s been decades of collaboration between Denmark and Greenland on establishing autonomy and independence of Greenland. It appears they are not interested in becoming integrated into a different state, but would rather continue that process.
But indeed, it’s up to the people of Greenland.
Lets see here… giving up social nets and universal healthcare, adopting policies that are destroying their home, very likely never be granted statehood, thus have little say in federal politics…
Im going to go with a strong no. They arent better off as US citizens.
And lose their Schengen passport? And have to adopt to a foreign language?
It’s already a self governing territory. And Americans will treat the Natives probably even worse than the Danish do nowadays
There’s probably health care they’d lose
We don’t ask honest questions around here buddy.
it may be an honest question, but surely a stoopid question.
There’s an actual answer to the question below.
