    My favorite part of this is that the lunch eggs can be “poached if necessary”. What do they mean, “necessary”? When they are prescribing a diet they could just tell us to eat 2 hard-boiled eggs for lunch, but instead they pause and concede that it may be impossible to have the lunch eggs be hard-boiled for some unspecified reason.

      my only guess here is that eggs still inside the shell were harder to find around lunchtime back in the 70s, and so they’re like well you already have boiling water, right? might as well poach a couple of shell-less eggs that you had lying around

      Poaching takes less time than completely hard boiling so if you were in a rush, you can shave off roughly 180 seconds of cooking time to give you extra time during your lunch break, which in the 1970’s I assume is roughly 2.5 hours
