The hamburgers, announced earlier today, along with a limited showcase, represent the first major food product you will be able to buy directly from the Steam storefront, sometime in 2027.
In a showcase limited to some media and influencers, our crew personally compared the burgers to something you may find in a Burger King or a similar fast food chain, but agreed they tasted just fine. Borrowing from its name, the Steam Hams are meant to be steamed according to a Valve spokesperson, although the current iteration appears to be grilled.
Valve also claims the recipe is actually closely based on a “family recipe [Gabe Newell] is fond of, and passed to the chefs at Valve”. They also claim some “tweaking is still ongoing”.
Given their careful approach to new products, it appears Valve are borrowing a similar system to their hardware. “The volume of hamburgers will be relatively low to start, and customers will be able to join a reservation list, for which they will then be randomly selected to buy the hamburgers”, Valve said. We weren’t given exact numbers, but depending on the demand, some people may have to wait until 2028 to give the Steam Hams a try.
The pricing and exact release date is unclear, but Valve reassures we can expect to get more details soon.

Is that RGB lighting? No, it’s the aurora borealis.
