It’s their lack of experience that leads to abominations like “kph”, “sqm”, “kgf”, “cc” or “MFD” (micro? milli? megafarad?). Only minor updates have needed to be made to the metric system: most recently the kilogram is no longer based on a piece if metal in Paris but constants of the universe. Unless you’re weighing to 8+ significant figures, there is no difference. Meanwhile the US ton/metric ton (10%) and mile/nautical mile (15%) difference causes confusion somewhere every day.
