Don’t forget:
>Search for item you want
>Cool, exact result shows up
>Click result
>“Oh, we don’t have this. But here’s 10 similar things you can buy instead.”>the 10 similar items have nothing to do with what you searched
And they’re all “marketplace” items so the store won’t guarantee quality and the return policy doesn’t apply. Plus shipping is $200 and three months when the store your trying to buy from is down the road.
Also:
>Click “add to cart”
>Sign in window pops up
>No option to skip sign inI even had a site yesterday that popped up the log in window when I tried to search! It wouldn’t let me see the search results without signing into an account.
God damn I feel like the last web developer that doesn’t load up 15 GB of JavaScript on every fucking page. What is wrong with my fellow developers??
Thank you for your service
Cause they’re not developers, they’re website maintainers and they just click all the “increase customer engagement options” on the Shopify premium web builder pro.
Ublock Origin solves every single one of these issues.
(Also, why would anyone ever hit anything other than “Reject All”?)
It doesn’t solve the jittery JS all over the place while the page loads. I reeeeeally hate it.
Because that accepts “Legitimate Interests” by default, and those are just more of the same trackers, just disguised as a separate section
I fucking hate the legitimate interest exemption shit, I have a legitimate interest in not accepting any fucking tracking.
What, no, they don’t allow “legitimate exceptions”, Gorhill literally created it because ABP was the one doing that.
Plus, you just can add more blocklists that override any “allowlist” (that obviously doesn’t exist).
I think you’re misreading my comment. I was answering the question about clicking anything other than “reject all”
Now it’s ‘sign in to view reviews.’ Fuck offfffffffffffff
Shopee won’t even let you fucking search without logging in, sometimes they won’t even load the landing page and just throw you at the login screen.
> search shows pages and pages of irrelevant items
> finally find item and order it
> algorithm starts showing nothing but the item for lower prices than I paid
> email forever flooded with, “We noticed you’re looking for Item”Can’t even find certain items on Amazon. Father in law sent me a picture of a tractor oil filter to order for him. Literally could not pull it up when logged in. Had to find it with google in a private tab, then share the item to myself.
2005 did have a lot of pop-ups and malware, but I’d still go back.
PUNCH BIN LADEN AND WIN A NEW TV!!
🗣️Congratulations - you won!

REAL or FAKE - Has science gone too far?
(I think a couple of these are a bit later than 2005, but still.)
gotta enjoy flash/silverlight/java/activex
Yeah 2005 is a bit early. As the internet progressed, shopping online slowly got safer and easier and more convenient. It’s hard to say when it got good exactly, but it probably peaked at some point between 2010 and 2015 IMO.
I remember building PC’s and helping friends to do so around that time and being incredibly impressed with the shopping experience on Newegg. I thought “wow this is so much better than driving to BestBuy, dodging their employees who are being harasses by their bosses to harass their customers tl upsell stuff”. The categories and organization were so clear and useful. The filters were tailored for each kind of specification you would want for a specific item. It was incredibly easy to look at what was relevant, narrow it down to a <5 choices, then deep dive and compare to make a decision. Then they got bought out and the website has turned to complete garbage. Not even worth looking at anymore.
There is an argument to be made that the best online shopping was post-pandemic. Prior to 2020 it was very common for items to take 2-4 weeks to arrive. Early 2020 I bought a PS4 controller on eBay that took 2 months to arrive because of some weird flu hitting China at the time, but I didn’t think anything waa off for the first month. Nowadays i’m still shocked by how fast stuff arrives.
Monitor did nothing wrong
It was probably an LG
Uses SAP Hybris E-Commerce Cloud in the background. It collects your info and whatever your mouse hovers over or clicks to build a customer profile to send you more ads to make you buy more stuff.
After years of not buying anything online I had to get a very specific replacement part that is ~impossible to source locally. So naturally I headed to AliExpress, and holy shit it’s even worse than what’s in the meme. I eventually managed to order what I needed but it took half an hour of wading through mazes of ads and “bundled deals” and non-working payment options.
search bar moves your cursor every time the results update
I can’t even blame any of the web frameworks for this, someone had to fuck this up the artisinal way.
Wrong, when you type to search for the item, you get everything BUT what you’re looking for.
Shop by category? HAHAHAHAHA fuck you, you’ll browse everything the site wants you to! Oh, and you better get your phone ready, because they WILL force you to buy via their app
“We care about your privacy, take these cookies or get a paid subscription” (I wish I was exaggerating).
Anyone ever tried temu? Holy shit it is a straight up nightmare.
