So uhh…the rear fell off.
Some social media users, perhaps jokingly, floated the idea that it could be a “tyre ejector charge system”.
Such claims suggest that the system is triggered when a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly and the car is unable to stop in time.
Lol.
Even funnier is the next line:
But several other users have also pointed out that such a system does not exist as there would be implications for vehicles behind.
The last time it happened:
That rear axle looks like it’s made of nothing.
My 80s hatchback uses the same design, but uses quite a bit thicker material. And I assume is a whole lot lighter too.
Meanwhile, in America…
What’s your point?
That American cars don’t fall apart on their own, if you want the back axle off you have to tear it off?
Shit happens.
Not a great picture but it looks like the welds broke.
E: confirmed in the article
Findings indicated that in that instance, the broken axle was caused by the miscalibration of an automated welding machine at the factory, after a worn-out tip was replaced.
A total of 60 units of the model, produced in August 2023, were then recalled.
You can tell its the exact same issue again as the spot where the welds broke are both visible in the photo.
It’s not a broken axle, it’s a broken rear suspension sub assembly. Broken axles are very common on older rusty vehicles.
I typically refer to “axle” as whatever goes between the wheels. This is a FWD vehicle so there’s no drive axle to speak of.
Is it supposed to do that?
That’s not very typical
Well, there are a lot of these cars going along the roads all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that Chery SUVs aren’t safe.
Does it meet maritime standards?
Look we designed it to meet the standards.
Sub optimal
The definition of SUV has certainly changed since the early 00’s
Vanstation-wagonhatchbackSUV!
Free weight reduction 😎
I thought it was a Chevy SUV and maybe it was a typo or something
I did not even notice the “typo” and until I read your comment just thought that it said Chevy.
I hate it when that happens (again). /s
Was Richard Dreyfus seen nearby?
