Are the Edgar Rice Burroughs Martian Tales books science fiction, or fantasy?

Its written as a classic sword & sorcery fantasy story. But it takes place on Mars, and features aliens and flying machines. If Lord of the Rings had aliens and airplanes, but everything else more or less stayed the same, is it still high fantasy, or is it now science fiction?

Personally, I call them Science Fantasy, as they blend Fantasy and Science Fiction, but also don’t belong in only one or the other. Fantasy Fiction wouldn’t make sense since fantasy is always fiction already. Science Fiction often doesn’t focus on science, but it usually features elements that are scientifically plausible, or have a science-back explanation as opposed to something purely fantasy like magic. So combining the two makes sense to me. I don’t see why it cant be here.

I have a feeling this one might not be as good as the older series. Seems to be a trend with recent remakes or mew asditions to classic series.

I think there was WWII motifs because at the time the original trilogy was being filmed, left over weapons, uniforms, etc were extremely cheap to buy and there was a lot of it available. Lot of material for low cost is always good for film.

Apparently, the Tetris Company is a copyright troll / vexatious litigant.

According to Tetris Holdings LLC v Xio Interactive, the 10x20 play area and block shapes are somehow copyrighted, despite these being argued as public domain previously.

Therefore all Tetris clones are somehow illegal. Absolutely insane.

Even crazier is Tetris Company somehow owns a copyright on the Russian folk song that was used for the original game in the video game market. Somehow, using that old, public domain song in any video game is infringing on Tetris Holdings copyright. How is that legal? Why is such unilateral control of public domain works allowed?

I am curious to know what exactly the copyright infringement was? There are a vast myriad of Tetris clones, none of which the Tetris Company have taken down. Copyright isn’t something you can pick and choose when to enforce it, copyright holders are legally obligated to enforce it on every infringement, or they lose the copyright. Was the game using Tetris IP music or something?

Probably CryzenX, who has been remaking OoT in Unreal Engine for a while now. Seems Nintendo didn’t bother to try making theirs look any better than CryzenX’s attempt, sadly.

Transitions and a minor less-than-a-second pause are one thing. That’s not what I am talking about.

The triforce animation instantly tells me that’s a 4+ second loading screen. Nobody puts those in for stylistic choice. Even Resident Evil 1 style door transition screens are significantly faster than in the original RE when they show up in modern indie games. RE1 had them because of a hardware limitation, and the creatives decided to hide them with the door animation. Modern developers aren’t usually so creative and they just shove a tiny animated sprite in the bottom corner, as seen here with the animated triforce.

As is customary of older anime, be aware most if not all of these contain any of the following: graphic violence, graphic nudity, high amounts of foul language. In other words, its probably not for your grandma or your living room TV.

Bubblegum Crisis (DO NOT start with Tokyo 2040, start with the original OVA first, it has better aesthetics and art) is always a recommendation from me. Along with the related series Bubblegum Crash, AD Police Files, Parasite Dolls, and A.D. Police: To Protect and Serve.

Armitage III has a cyberpunk aesthetic but on Mars, the story isn’t perfect but it’s interesting enough. The original, not the movie with Kiefer Sutherland which is just the OVAs cut down into a movie.

Dominion Tank Police was a fun series.

Goku Midnight Eye is all attitude and little substance. I really liked it, but don’t watch it expecting an intricate plot. Its just entertainment, not more. But its cool entertainment.

Cyber City Oedo 808 is another one that isnt that deep but oozes pure classic cyberpunkium.

They intentionally wanted to make the shot-for-shot remake fail so they can point at it “still failing” and continue to ruin more remakes.

Please clarify what game you are talking about in the title of the post next time, talking about Colonel Miller had me thinking this was about Metal Gear’s Colonel Miller, the father of Kazuhira Miller.
