Put an elderly, incontinent cat in a room whose floor is completely covered by 26 books containing the names of every person who signed up to run for office divided by the first letter of their last name. Whichever book the cat pees on is eliminated and the room is rearranged so that the remaining books completely cover the floor. Continue until there is one book and then break that down into smaller binders divided by the first letter of each candidate’s middle name (candidates without a middle name or multiple middle names are eliminated). Repeat the pee elimination process until there is one binder left. Divide those names into piles by the first letter of their first name and repeat the pee process. When only one pile remains, all candidates must take a fitness test and whoever finishes third gets the job.

I would argue father-to-son leader distribution done by Louis the Pious in the 9th century AD,
resulting into the kingdom split into three seperate nations.
So instead of agnatic primogeniture, which means “the oldest son becomes the new king when the king dies”,
you get “All my sons become kings when the I die and they get to split up the empire as if it’s a farm.”

Second worst is to appoint a leader after an election that wasn’t even on the ballot
and would be the last person if she was. I’m looking at you, EU and Ursula von der Leyen.
