I asked my mom if she watched the news today and she said she didn’t. I told her something I heard on the news. She then told me she had just heard that talked about on the news.
Maybe it’s an old person thing, but “watching” the news means sitting down and watching a network television program.
We don’t consider online articles or Tiktok “watching the news”
RSS feeds and Lemmy, mostly.
Listening and reading are both valid ways to aquire information. Often reading especially is significantly faster than watching something as well.
Since this is Shitty Ask Lemmy, I must conclude that you are imagining the whole thing.
It sounds like maybe she heard it on the radio.
Or she heard it through the grapevine.
It’s possible she listens to the news. I listen to NPR and the Tagesschau (German news) daily.
i don’t watch the news, i monitor the situation
Oh my dad is one of those. He watches The YouTube instead, which is somehow even worse for his brain and disposition.
They read it like the rest of us
This is the stuff I pay for
Lawfare for Trump stuff
Peter Zeihan for what’s happening next year
I read/listen to as much of The Economist as I can get through each week
The free one that is key is What’s Going On with Shipping
The TV news in the US is beyond useless
The Economist
LOL
Some of us just absorb the news thru osmosis
She probably does that reading stuff
Personally I go through spurts of hyper engagement and non engagement so I wouldn’t really say I pay attention to the news bc I’m not consistent or deliberate
I watch breaking points on YouTube for my national news
