Really bad at understanding people but then:
Friend: “My cat always looks pissed off”
Me: “What are you talking about, that’s a relaxed face, your cat is pretty much smiling”
Animals can’t say anything to contradict your assessment of their body language.
Oh yeah haha
But like their actions can
Animals are usually being honest and their language is consistent, non-ambiguous, it makes it easy to practice and recognize.
People on the other hand have both more subtle expressions and we have the ability to train ourselves to adjust our expressions, which introduces more chaos.
But yeah, have you ever asked the animals if your reading is actually right? You can do that with humans, which like someone else mentioned also plays a role.
Cats don’t live under a patriarchy and are more emotionally available
animals are individuals. each has different level of emotional availability.
Humans are animals…
Oh yeah I forgor

you just wrinkled my brain
Things like posture, eye contact, etc., also often exist in a socio-cultural space, so it can be hard to separate them. Animals are usually pretty universal, even across species.
animals are individuals. each has different mix of traits, even between siblings.
Idk this site has made me think I’m pretty good at talking to humans, birds, and some other critters
Well, two things:
-
That’s a pretty broad stroke to recognize. I’m willing to bet you have a better than random ability to figure out if someone is relaxed.
-
No one posts “this means it is happy/sad/angry” under pictures of people. You don’t get the same explicit instruction, and have to feel out what everything means.
-
Owl expert here! (Ornithologist) That owl is in fact orgasming
people are really good at dissonance between their feelings and their body language – animals are not.
