I’ve been watching critical role but want to keep watching it. I tried dungeon’s and daddies and I couldn’t get through the first season. That’s basically the extent of what I’ve got.

I have a lot of longish train rides lately which is nice but also I need a good podcast for them and DND podcasts seem right my speed for this. I was listening to a very long audiobook but finished and haven’t been able to commit to another book yet so that’s where I’m at.

Anyway what are some good DND play podcasts that aren’t too serious but also aren’t dungeons and daddies levels of ridiculous.

Friends at the table, if you want some lefty people playing tabletop roleplaying games that aren’t DnD. The focus is on sharp worldbuilding, strong characterization and team/group interaction.

It’s by Austin Walker (as DM) and his friends, they have done a future mechs series (partizan), a sad religious contemplation series (sangfielle), a Dreamcast jrpg inspired season (perpetua) and many more.

Not Another DND Podcast is pretty silly. But probably their most entertaining content to me is Dungeon Court. People write in about their questionable experiences at the table and ask them to judge if the player or DM are at fault. Anything from DM power trips to psychotic player choices.

More DND adjacent but could be fun to kill some time.

Not DnD but I listen to a dramatization of A World of Darkness play session called “Hunter: The Parenting”. Great for those who know nothing or know a lot about the WoD world and its funkyness. I seem to listen to it on loop almost weekly now its so enjoyable.

They even have a more streamlined “actual play” of another World of Darkness IP called “Mage: The Ascension”. Featuring four oddballs who for a brief moment experience absolute power to change reality with their awakening to their powers before returning to their normal selves plus a little extra hocus pocus and must go on the run from the Men in Black, essentially, and learn about what World they’ve just entered into. This one actually, verbally, shows dicerolls and the wacky things that actually happens with a table top.

If you like fun banter but also serious storytelling, I recommend Glass Cannon Podcast, although they play Pathfinder, not DnD, but potato potato. I really enjoyed campaign 2. Frankly hilarious if you have the same sense of humor

I listened to a couple of seasons of dragon friends before it collapsed into the inevitable singularity of in jokes, references and dm bullying

Highly recommend Min Maxed. It’s like critical role but it has Jaques zero Whipper the Blumineck the pole dancing archery twink the Sellsword Arts folks and bansai the meteor hammer guy.

I will always shill for the Film Reroll, a podcast where they use GURPS to play through movies, with things typically going off the rails. Their best work is probably Memento, where in order to replicate the main character having amnesia, it was a 1-on-1 game where a different player took over every time the scene changes with 0 information being passed along.

If you’re open to other systems I’d recommend MNMaxed, Tabletop Gold and Hideous Laughter for PF2e, Cosmic Crit for Starfinder, and Get In The Trunk for Delta Green.
I personally really enjoy The Danger Club and Rotgrind/Warhams, but they might be sillier than you’re looking for.

If you’re open to something more serious I’d also point to Find The Path, who I consider the gold standard for TTRPG play. The DM does a lot of research into the settings and the real world cultures they’re inspired by, and uses that to really make the world feel alive, while the players make interesting characters whose stories and backstories naturally flow into the main narrative without long monologues and flashbacks.

Also I realised the perfect comparison for Rotgrind’s level of silliness: the players are all part of the crew that made If The Emperor Had A TTS Device and Hunter: The Parenting.

started listening to full EPs of legend of avantris because of the deranged animations they get out of the banter
